It was a fantastic day of cross-country running at St Mary’s College in Galway for Loreto Secondary School last Saturday, March 10.
For the first time ever, Loreto’s intermediate team impressively battled all the way to the finish to claim the bronze medal. The team was led by the talented Anna Sheehan who placed sixth over the fast and undulating course. Because of her tremendous run, she was selected for the Irish schools cross-country team where she will participate in the International schools cross country competition in Scotland at the end of the month.
Also making a huge contribution were Ailbhe Richardson who came in 28th place, Lauren Dermody 39th place, Lindsey Dillon 44th place and Nicola Murphy 49th place. It was an outstanding achievement for the girls.
The Minor Team also had a fantastic day in finishing an impressive fourth place in the Minor team event. The team consisted of Jennifer O’Keeffe in 14th place, Grace Richardson in 32nd place, Ciara Lawlor in 55th place, Aoife O’Carroll in 60th place, Lorraine Hoyne-Casey in 65th place and Amy Delaney in 66th place.
The girls showed great determination and made their school very proud. We look forward to greater achievements from them in the future.
