Lisdowney sevens - Last Saturday saw Barrow Rangers u 13’s take home the Lisdowney 7 a side Shield for the second time in the club’s history.
The previous Saturday they began the tournament by narrowly losing to Dicksboro in their first match, this then saw them compete for the Shield where they beat The Rower-Inistioge in the first round. This was enough to earn them a place in the quarter final last Saturday. They had a comprehensive win over Rathdowney Errils in the quarter final they then went on to play Naas in the semi-final, this was a much closer affair but managed to beat them by a goal and a point. This set up a final clash with neighbours, Young Ireland’s of Gowran. In a fairly tense game Rangers looked to have victory in sight when they led by four points with only minutes to go but Gowran scored a point and were awarded a penalty which they duly scored to level the match. Extra time was required to separate the teams and the boys in blue and white duly outscored their opponents by a goal and three points to lift the Lisdowney 7’s Kilkenny Supporters Shield. Congratulations to Ruairí Breen, Jimmy Byrne, Michael Doyle, James English, Sean Grace, Jack Kelly, Edward O’ Neill, Sean O’ Neill, James Hennessy and Ciarán Hanlon.
