A MAN whose grandfather sold a fishing boat to a Kilkenny man in the mid-1980s is trying to find out what became of the boat.

Jack Doherty of St Judes, Cheekpoint, County Waterford submitted this photograph of the fishing boat being transferred onto a trailer in the mid-’80s, and his hope is to locate the boat or find out what happened to it.

“The story of the boat is as follows. During the mid-’80s my granddad, Jim Doherty, The Quay, Cheekpoint, Co Waterford – seen with his hand on the side of the boat (The Reaper being the name of the boat) – sold the boat to a man in Kilkenny,” he wrote. “We have no details of this man but think that he was from somewhere around Callan. When he was buying the boat from my granddad he used to ring from a phone in the local pub; again, we are not sure of the exact details but think that it was around the area of Callan.”

If the photograph “triggers someone’s memory,” Jack asks that they contact him at St Judes, Cheekpoint, County Waterford.
