TOTS TO TEENS - Tots to teens are now up and roaring! We are all looking forward to the forthcoming production of “The Lion King” featuring Madagaksker! Any one wishing to get involved behind the scenes on the nights of the show are most welcome. If anyone has any costumes they might wish to donate or lend the Group would be most grateful (these will be returned afterwards) and this would be a huge bonus to the Group. This year’s emphasis is on animal and jungle type costumes. In order to fund the shows fundraising is now on their agenda. On Sunday next 21st after 11 o’clock mass the Group will hold a cake sale in the Community Hall. All support would be greatly appreciated and anyone that would be available to help out please let the Group know. Freshford Squash Club - The squash season has restarted and is in full swing in Freshford Squash Club. There is a blitz every Thursday at 8pm for both men and women. The club caters for all age groups from beginning to advanced. New members always welcome. The membership for the year 2012-2013 is as follows: €50 single, €70 married/family, €5 juvenile. Membership is due before you receive your key as locks for this year has been changed.
FRESHFORD COMMUNITY MARKET - Freshford Community Market is held each Saturday from 11 – 1pm There are a number of stalls and a good variation of goods on offer This is a community initiative and you are urged to go along and support your local Community and maybe have a tea or coffee and some homemade scones or cakes all locally produced. The Group are asking for local support . . Then entertainment later in the bar with D J Tracey Edwards. Local lads David Tracey is having his head shaved on the night with Simon and John having their hair dyed. Everyone welcome. There is no charge – a Donation box will be there - all donations and money raised on the night will go to Action Breast Cancer. Please support this very worthy cause.
GAA - St. Lachtains Intermediate Hurlers were in action at the week end in the league final against Clara which was played at Jenkinstown on Sunday last. Playing against a strong wind St. Lachtains found themselves behind 1-10 to 0-7 at the break. In a match of this kind three wides after half time left the local lads with it all to do and Clara came out winner by 2-15 to 0-15 at the final whistle.. They play in the quarter final of the championship next week the draw will take place this week when they will find out who their opponents will be. (see fixtures for time venue and opponents) The U-16 hurlers game v Ballyhale/Shamrocks which was to take place at the weekend was called off as the result wasn’t going to have any effect on the fixtures going forward . SOCCER - Well done to Freshford Town U12 boys who travelled to Oylgate in Wexford on Saturday last to take part on the SFAI cup.The boys played the local team and dominated the game from kick off with the final score of 5 - 0.. The Freshford boys made it a very worthwhile trip with a comfortable against their Wexford opponents. They started brightly and attacked from the very start and scored two early goals with the lightning fast Luke Campion on the right wing scoring two great goals and a third goal coming from Cathal O’Leary before half time. Two more goals followed in the second half with Luke completing his hat trick and Cathal getting his second with both boys producing man of the match performances. Despite both boys getting the goals and the headlines it was a full sixteen player performance with all performing well that pleased their management best. The reward for this win is a home tie in Woodview in a months time against Carlow’s well fancied New Oak Boys. Squad: E. Cahill, CJ Daly, J. Crosby, Eoin D., A. Tallis, J. McCarthy, Eoin K., E. The Youths had an away game on Saturday and were unlucky to concede the equiliser in the dying minutes of the game which ended on a scoreline of 3-3. Training has resumed for 5-9 year olds and continues every Saturday from 12-1 with Gary Barnaville in charge, all boys in that age group are most welcome. The club has entered an U-13 girls team and has huge response so far. Anyone interested in signing up (must be born in the Year 2000 or after) can contact any member of the club for details. The Junior side travelled to Durrow on Sunday to take on Lions B in the league and the game finished -0-0 at the final whistle.

DANCE CLASSES - Social dance classes will resume in St.Kierans Hall Johnstown started on Wednesday evening last and continues each Wednesday evening at 8pm. If you would like to learn to dance the Old time waltz, quick step, fox trot, jive etc.., you can go along on any Wednesday. You don’t need a partner just go along and bring your friends. Conker Championships Award - The Irish Conker Championships have received the huge honour of being presented with the ‘Community Volunteerism’ Award at this years Kilkenny Person of the Year Awards on Friday the 26th Oct. This is a wonderful tribute to the Freshford community and hopefully as many volunteers as possible will join the committee and attend the Gala ceremony on the night. Halloween Disco - Oasis annual Halloween Disco will take place on Wed 31st October in the Community Hall at 6pm. Children are welcome to dress in fancy dress, lots of fun, goodie bags and screams guaranteed! On Saturday 27th at 4pm Oasis Childcare Centre will be rolling out the red carpet bringing in the popcorn machines for a showing of the Oscar nominated film ‘The Secret Book of Kells’. Marathon - Four local lads are taking part in the Dublin City Marathon at the moment – Andrew Martin, Paul Phelan, Noel Maher and Paul Dowling. . HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE - Special Birthday wishes go out to local man Joe Dermody who celebrated a very special birthday at the weekend. Joe who is widely known in the area marked the big 40 with family and friends in Kavanaghs Bar on Saturday night last. Joe was an ardent member of St.Lachtains hurling teams over the years and played in goal for Kilkenny on a few occasions over the years.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT GROUP - Freshford Active Retirement Group meet every second Tuesday in the local Community Hall at 3pm with Bowling at McDonagh Junction on alternative Tuesdays.
