Get Fit Over The Winter - You will never be bored if you give circuit training a go. You may be feel exhausted after sessions, as it is intense training which gives an all-over body workout. It involves an average of eight to ten exercises, performed repeatedly. Now with the onset of winter, the tendency to curl up on the sofa in front of the fire can be very tempting for most of us. The circuit is a fantastic way to tone, lose weight and keep fit. Each station is adapted to suit your individual fitness level and is suitable for different age groups also. You can work at your own pace with a mixture of weight training and cardiovascular work. You can drop in to any of our classes and find the programme that suits you. Classes in Danesfort Community Centre every Friday at 7pm. PLEASE NOTE THIS FRIDAY CLASS WILL START AT 6.30pm Contact Margaret 086 8355725. 5 weeks €30 and individual class €7
GAA- in a repeat of the last round of the league Danesfort get one last bite at the cherry when they take on Dunnamaggin in the senior hurling relegation final. The locals have to secure a win if they are to compete in senior hurling for a second year. Danesfort defeated Dunnamaggin 1-15 to 1-12 in their last encounter. In the first round of the St. Canice’s senior hurling league played in a sunny Nowlan Park, last Saturday Danesfort lined out against Graigue Ballycallan, a game which would ensure safety for the winners. In the first half the Ballycallan side did the better hurling and despite a great save after 18 minutes by Frank Manogue of an Eddie Brennen penalty Graigue went in on a 0-8 lead to 0-5 at half time. Danesfort came out all guns blazing and equalised with 3 successive points after three minutes of the second half. The locals could not keep the momentum going and trailed for the rest of the match. In injury time with the score standing at 0-13 to 0-10, Danesfort got the chance of taking the game to extra time when they were awarded a penalty. Paddy Hogan stepped up but could not capitalise and Graigue took the spoils with am3 point margin. SOCCER - There were mixed fortunes for the various Fort Rangers teams in action at the weekend. The under-8’s went down after a good game away to Thomastown Utd. on Friday night, while the under-10’s lost out 2-1 to Callan Utd. on Saturday morning. The under-14s travelled to Castlecomer at lunchtime on Saturday and were very unfortunate to be held to a 2-2 draw, with Jim Nugent junior among the goals for the locals. Pride of place goes to the under-19 side who went into the Fair Green to face a hotly fancied Freebooters team in the league. A magnificent team performance, highlighted by 4 smashing goals from Emmet Nugent and one from Daragh Hennessy, resulted in a 5-1 victory to leave Fort top of the league and Freebooters stunned! Under 19 team: John Rice, Lee Dunne, Seamus McGrath, Patrick Tynan, Ger Dunne, Dion Fitzpatrick, Colm Phelan, James Lenehan, Evans Wallace, Emmet Nugent, Daragh Hennessy. Subs:Robbie Malone, Jason Doherty. The Nugent family scoring spree continued on Sunday when the local Junior side bowed out of the FAI Junior Cup, after a thrilling encounter with Bunlody of Wexford. Despite being 3-0 and 4-1 down during the game, Jim Nugent senior, Edward Nugent and Emmet (2) got the goals to force extra time. Bunclody scored twice in the last 10 minutes to pinch the tie 6-4.
