SAORVIEW - The Muintir na Tíre Community Alert programme has been working with RTE to provide information to communities on the switchover from Analogue to Digital TV which is taking place on the 24th October 2012. This work has been done through an information campaign utilising Muintir’s national network of community volunteers both Community Alert and Community Council and is aimed at Older and Vulnerable people in communities who may need assistance in managing the Digital Switchover. A little over 335,000 households in Ireland currently receive their television channels exclusively through an aerial. These households will lose their television service if they do not make the switch to digital by the 24th October 2012. SAORVIEW is the new digital TV service. It will replace the analogue television service which will be switched off on 24th October 2012. If you are currently receiving your television service via an aerial only you need to take action. After the 24th October you will still need your aerial to receive the new digital TV Signal There are 3 simple rules regarding your TV aerial: 1. If you are currently receiving RTE One, RTE Two, TV3 and TG 4 – Your aerial is likely to be fine. 2. If you are currently receiving RTE One, RTE Two, TG 4 but not TV 3. - Aerial may be ok but will need readjustment. 3. You receive RTE One and RTE two, - You may need a new UHF aerial. The following applies to your TV: Once the Digital signal has been transmitted to the Aerial the television needs to be able to decode it. Older TV’s i.e more than 1 year old will need a SAORVIEW approved set–top box to be connected to the Television.SAORVIEW approved TV’s have a built in receiver which enables them to receive the digital signal directly and do not need a set top box. Further information is available fromSAORVIEW www.saorview.ie Lo Call 1890 222 012 or from your local Muintir na Tíre Community Group.
