REGATTA RESULT - The local community enjoyed a fantastic day out at Thomastown Regatta on Sunday, July 1. People of all ages flocked to the event, which featured a wide range of activities, including medieval displays, gerbil racing, tarot card readings, pottery workshops, plus splendid live music from the Graiguenamanagh Brass Band and tunes from DJ Scatman John. Other attractions included stands from local community organizations and Inland Fisheries Ireland, live drama, and a hugely popular puppet show “Goldilocks & The Three Bears” presented by famous puppeteer Miriam Lambert. Skilled tradesmen gave demonstrations of woodworking, blacksmithing and lathe-turning, and some brave souls even tried out these trades for themselves! There was also a display of different boats, including a replica of a Viking long boat, plus antique and newly built cots. River conditions meant that the cot and kayak racing program had to be reduced, but a large crowd gathered by the riverbank to watch racers from the Thomastown Paddlers. Thanks are due to the many volunteers, community organizations, sponsors and landowners who came together and worked so hard to make the Regatta such a success. Here’s to next year!
