ANNUAL FIELD DAY-The date has been set for the Annual Danesfort Parish Field Day. It will be held on Sunday September 2 with the venue being the Sevenhouse’s Coursing Grounds, as usual. raffle tickets will be distributed this month - there are a large number of excellent prizes. Donation of vegetables, plants, baking and home produce are requested. Timber for firewood for the auction is also required. More information will be given regarding events at a later date.
FASHION SHOW - Ladies a date for your diary! St. Michael’s NS Danesfort will hold a fashion show on October 10 at Langton House Hotel. Following the success of last years show this one promises to be just as enjoyable with a fantastic line up of shops and boutiques to suit everyone. More information to follow....watch this space!
PAST PUPIL HONOURED - The board of management, teachers, pupils and parents association of St. Michael’s NS were delighted to welcome All Star and past pupil Paul Murphy to the school recently. The Chairman of the Board, Jim Ryan presented Paul with an engraved Jerpoint bowl, to mark his achievements in the Black and Amber of Kilkenny. Paul had a very busy afternoon chatting with the children and signing autographs on everything from hurls to pencil cases. Paul returned the compliment by presenting School Principal and Tipperary man, Joe Hickey with a signed hurley. A great afternoon was had by all. All present wish to thank Paul and we wish you every success for the rest of the season.

CAMOGIE - Congratulations to the Danesfort U10 camoige girls who came up trumps on Saturday July 7 in the Third series of the Go-Games Blitz, hosted by Tullogher. GAA CLUB DEVELOPMENT - There will be a door-to-door visit by members of the Danesfort GAA Club to all homes in the parish within the next couple of weeks explaining the new developments that the Club is embarking on. At the moment the Club is in the middle of Phase 1 which involves the development of the new playing field as well as the walking track. Phase 2 hopes to see the building of a new clubhouse along with a car park and all-weather training surface. Each house will be given an information leaflet explaining the development, but please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
KARATE -The Karate Club meet on Tuesdays 4.00pm to 5.00pm in Danesfort Community Centre for boys and girls 4 to 12 year olds. . There will be a strong focus on physical fitness, with plenty of fun and games incorporated into the classes. Karate has many proven benefits for kids both physical and mentally. The Physical benefits include better movement and control, improved flexibility, increased fitness and the ability to protect oneself. The psychological benefits are improved confidence, become more assertive and improved self-esteem. No special gear required, just turn up in tracksuit and away you go. Call Kevin 086 3668669.

YOGA - Yoga, with instructor Sadhbn O’Neill, will continue on Tuesday mornings at 10.00am during the summer months on a drop-in basis. For athletes and other sports people, yoga is a godsend and can help with specifics like fallen arches, joint problems, muscle strains and flexibility. With many people now taking up running, yoga will counteract many of the problems runners commonly encounter, including shortening of the muscles and tightness in the hip area. Runners often neglect their upper body and yoga will strengthen and tone muscles in every part of the body. Remember, yoga is for everyone: young, old, female, and yes, male also. If you have never practiced yoga, and would like to try it, just drop in any Tuesday. All you need are comfortable clothing, yoga mat, blanket and small pillow. HIP HOP - Hip Hop dance tuition for all national school children in Danesfort Community Centre on Wednesdays 4.00pm to 5.00pm. Classes are given by Favio Linares of 311 Dance and Fitness Group. TEEN CRAFTS - The first teen summer camp will be held this year in Danesfort Community Centre. It will offer a wide variety of activities and lots of fun. PARENT GUARDIAN BABBY TODDLER - Will take a break for the summer and the group will recommence on Monday September 3, 10.30a.m - 12.15 p.m. at Danesfort Community Centre. New Parents, Guardian s and little one s are all welcome. An Early Childhood Ireland group.
FOOD AND CRAFTS - Callan Indoor Food & Craft Market takes place in Droichead Family Resource Centre, The Friary, Mill St. in Callan EVERY FRIDAY from 9am – 2pm. Produce on offer: Fruit & Veg, Cakes, Breads, Eggs, Savory dishes, Meat, Handcrafted Cards, Calendars, Hair Fascinators, Turned & Sculpted Wood, Sewing & Knitted embroidered gifts, Jewellery and handmade soap .
