After their great successes of the Summer months where the club won medals at all levels as well as producing championship best performances, the club is looking forward to even better success next year. Training has already started and anyone is most welcome. Training is in Gowran Park racecourse Monday’s and Friday’s from 6.30 to 7.30pm.

Meanwhile, the club is presenting a night out for runners and friends in the Pembroke Hotel in Patrick Street in Kilkenny on Friday 5th October. An information evening with talks on nutrition, marathon diets, walking and running by experienced athletes will commence at 9.30pm sharp, and this will be followed by a cabaret with music by Mick and Gerry from 10.30pm. Also, in November on Sunday the 18th, there is a 10 mile road race in Dungarvan with all proceed going towards both the Athletic Club and the GAA club. It cost only €20 to enter and there are cash prizes for the top 3 with team and category prizes. Also on the route there are water stations, while there will be sandwiches and refreshments post-race. BALLYSHAUM PLAYERS ARE IN FULL SWING - Gowran has a new drama group under the watchful eye of Gowran’s Pantomine Director Andrew O’Leary.

The “Ballyshaun Players” are in full rehearsals for their first production of the “The cripple of Inishmaan” on Friday October 19th and Saturday October 20th in Gowran Parish Hall.

To help with cost of preparing of producing their first play, the group will be hosting a Cake Sale in the hall after Mass next Sunday afternoon.

All baked goods will be appreciated and all support would be most welcome.

Special guest on the day will be celebrity chef Edward Hayden who will be giving a demonstration on cake decorating.

A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE- Gowran was chosen as one of the villages to participate in a KLP county-wide ‘Culture & Heritage Project’, and last Tuesday evening week, a workshop titled A Celebrating Gowran, it’s Stories and Environment’ workshop took place in the Parish Hall in front of a packed attendance.

The evening was about what the village has to offer and also reference to the present and the past of our parish.

The workshop which was a very beneficial evening was about encouraging people to share their pride in local living with each other, newcomers and visitors alike.

This project aims to help turn ideas into plans for a Gowran based community heritage project.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION MASS MAY 2013 - On Sunday next September 23rd, enrolment for 1st Holy Communion next May will take place at 11.30am Mass.

This enrolment Mass will be the first of the monthly masses which will be part of the preparation for 1st Holy Communion in the presence of and support of the assembled Christian worshipping community.

All are welcome to attend this mass, and your attendance will be a support to the children preparing for 1st Holy Communion and their parents in the role of handing on the faith.

GOWRAN PARISH MISSION - For the first time since 1995, a Parish Mission will take place from Saturday 3rd November to Friday 9th November.

Preparations for the parish mission got into full swing at a meeting held last Wednesday night in Teach Mhuire.Missionaries will introduce the Mission at weekend masses of 3rd and 4th November with the Blessing of Babies after the 11.30am Mass on Sunday 4th. Opening Session of the Mission is on Sunday 4th November at 7.30pm in Gowran Church, with the Themes of the Mission as follows. Dungarvan – Monday evening 7.30pm healing. Gowran – Tuesday evening 7.30pm family. Dungarvan – Wednesday evening 7.30pm reconciliation. Gowran – Thursday evening 7pm youth and prayer. Gowran – Friday evening 7.30pm celebration of community. There is Mass every day from Monday to Friday in Dungarvan at 7am and Gowran at 9.30am. The Mission Director is Fr. John Hanna assisted by Fr. Brendan Keane.
