CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOG - Those of you who have dogs and walk them in public areas are asked to bring a bag with you to clean up after them. This is an ongoing problem in the village and it is unbelievable in this day and age that people who keep dogs as pets allow them to pooh on the footpaths, outside shops and outside people’s home, it is disgusting and lets us all know how little they think of the people who live in the area and how little they think of the village where they live. It is not only those who take their dogs out for a walk but there are several dogs allowed to roam freely and do their business anywhere and the area at the school is particularly bad.

IRELAND REACHING OUT SEEKS VOLUNTEERS IN CARLOW - Ireland Reaching Out programme is a multi-award winning Irish Government sponsored initiative established to help people of Irish Heritage Worldwide connect with the Irish Parish or town from where they or their ancestors originated.

Ireland Reaching Out is also a partner with “The Gathering Ireland 2013” and is looking for Volunteers in Carlow to assist. Cynthia O Connor, genealogist with the programme is seeking assistance initially to answer queries on the Ireland Reaching Out Website for people abroad connected with Co Carlow.

The Ireland XO website has developed a parish profile for every parish in the country. When someone abroad wants to connect to an Irish parish, they can leave a query on the website which is responded to by local volunteers.

When a member of the parish Diaspora visits the area, then someone can show them their family graves, the house their people were born in, the land they once farmed, and if possible, introduce them to living relatives in Ireland, establishing a lifelong connection with the area. Ireland XO is building an invaluable national infrastructure to encourage tourism and energy into every community, regardless of size and location. While Ireland XO is a long-term programme, we have re-arranged our priorities for the coming year to support fully the efforts of the Gathering programme to attract people to visit Ireland in 2013.
