FAMILY WALK - Cullahill Mountain 6km Family fundraising walk, on Sunday 10th February from Cullahill Community Centre @ 2pm, is to support Laura Walsh, Cullahill who is fundraising in aid of “The Hope Foundation” (To help fund over 60 projects with street children in Calcutta) Laura will leave for Calcutta on March 21st. WANT TO WALK OR JOG? - A group of potential Mini Marathoners are meeting in Clontubrid Car park on Thursday morning at 9.00am to start walking. The Parent’s Council of Scoil Naomh Fiachra are looking for volunteers to do the mini Marathon in June, but this is open to all people who would like to get together and walk. If this time doesn’t suit you, call Dorothea on 087 6818035 and tell her what evenings or mornings would suit you and we will try and organise groups to suit everyone. This will be suitable for all levels of joggers and walkers.

COLLEGES HURLING - Congratulations to Michael Kenny and Eoin Walsh who played on the Kierans Senior team who beat Birr College in the Quarter final on Saturday last.
WALSH CUP - Well done to Rory Hickey from Lisdowney GAA Club who was part of the Kilkenny Senior Development Squad team who played Wexford last Sunday. Although the Kilkenny side were defeated Rory played a great game and displayed some excellent free taking skills.
SYMPATHIES - Sympathies are extended to the family of Alice O’Neill from Kilkenny Rd., Freshford and Jos Doolley of Jenkinstown both of whom were interred on Sunday last and both of whom have relations living in Lisdowney parish.
COMMUNITY GAMES QUIZ - Congratulations to all the children who took part in the Lisdowney Community Games Under 14 Quiz last Saturday in Lisdowney GAA Club. 40 children from 3rd Class up to Under 14 took part. The theme for the night was Healthy Eating and a stand was set up to emphasis this point. Spot prizes on the night were beautiful healthy food hampers won by Emma McEvoy and Jack McGree. The winning team on the night, Claire O’Carroll, Holly Moore, Laura O’Sullivan and Aoibhean Murphy also won Healthy food hampers. The Silver medal winners were Hugh Murphy, Eimear Walsh, Ciara Doyle and Ellen O’Carroll, while the bronze medal winning team was David O’Carroll, Niall Brennan, Orna Maher and Saoirse Maher.
The winning team which will go forward to represent Lisdowney at the County Kilkenny Community Games Quiz Final later in the Spring is Eimear Walsh, CLaire O’Carroll, James Phelan, Chloe Mullins, Laura O’Sullivan and Aoibheann Murphy. Emma McEvoy and Ellen O’Carroll have also been selected to go forward to the County quiz in Kilkenny.
Thanks to all the parents who helped prepare for the event, and also helped on the night. Thanks also to the older children who teamed up with younger children to help them enjoy the night.
COMMUNITY GAMES ART - The Lisdowney Community Games Art Competition (Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16) will be held on Monday, 11thFebruary 2013, from 3 pm – 4 pm, in Lisdowney GAA Club. Entry €2 per child.
Older children who can not attend at that time are asked to hand in an entry to Deirdre Dunne, Theresa Dunphy, Eithne Downey or Catherine McEvoy on or before that date. Winning entries (which will be independently judged) will be eligible to represent Lisdowney at the County Kilkenny Community Games Art Finals to be held later in the Spring. Children should bring their own colours. Paper will be supplied.
COMMUNITY GAMES HANDWRITING - The Lisdowney Community Games Handwriting Competition (Under 10) will be held through the three parish schools. The Lisdowney Community Games Committee wishes to thank the schools for facilitating this. The winning entries (which will be independently judged) will go forward to represent Lisdowney at the County Kilkenny Community Games Handwriting Finals to be held later in the Spring.
COMMUNITY GAMES ATHLETICS AND SWIMMING - The Lisdowney Community Games Athletics Competition will be held later in the Spring. Details to follow. Details will also be circulated of the County Kilkenny Community Games Swimming Finals once the date is finalised.

GAA SPORTS PROPHET - Lisdowney GAA Club has launched its Sports Prophet fundraiser for 2013. Application forms are available from Club PRO and Sports Prophet Organiser, Graham O’Shea, or any committee member. Entry is €20. Congrats to last year’s winners, May Maher and Sheila Kelly.
LISDOWNEY GAA MEMBERSHIP - Membership is due for renewal for the coming year. Players’ membership is €70, ordinary membership is €50, children are €20 per child with family membership only €100 for two adults and all children. At least one parent of each child is asked to please join the club, partly for insurance purposes, but also as the children get huge a amount of enjoyment playing with the club, and funding of club activities is always needed. It is essential too that all those who help out with training sessions in any shape or form become members. Garda vetting forms are also available from the club secretary or any member of the committee.
LISDOWNEY GAA AND CAMOGIE CLUB LOTTO - The numbers drawn in the Lisdowney GAA and Camogie Club Lotto on Monday, 29th January 2013, were 2, 12, 16 and 27. There was no winner. Match three winners were Patricia Delaney, Kathleen Grace Cashin, Jim Fogarty and Johnny Holland. Annual club lotto tickets are currently on sale. The annual ticket for €100 enters you into 52 weekly draws. Weekly tickets are just €2 and are available from Hogans’, McGraths’, Bradleys’Butchers and the Credit Union in Ballyragget, O’Carroll’s Pharmacy and Micheal Bergin’s in Freshford, Mackeys’ in Gathbawn, Carmel’s in Lisdowney and from any committee member.

LISDOWNEY BADMINTON CLUB - Badminton for adults continues each Monday night at 8pm in Lisdowney Community Centre.
JUVENILE BADMINTON - Badminton for eight year olds and up continues in Lisdowney Community Centre on Friday nights from 7 pm to 8 pm (please note change of time). The club has some spare rackets for those who don’t have access to one. Badminton is an energetic sport which children should enjoy. All are welcome.
