Tidy Towns - Once again Spa Development who sponsor the ‘Tidy Towns’ event each year, are appealing for help to clean up the approach roads to the village. Last week it was the turn of the Rathdowney Road and Terrace. Last year Johnstown village was very colourful with all the window boxes on every house and the beautiful flowers on the Square. Everyone is welcome to help to keep the village in pristine order.

Video of 1986 All Ireland Ploughing Championships - A video of the 1986 All-Ireland Ploughing Championship held in Woodsgift will be shown on Saturday night April 20 at 9pm in the Valley Inn. Sponsored by Johnstown Monster Tractor run Group all proceeds in aid of Enable Ireland. Admission €5. Your support for this very worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.

Athletic Club - Congratulations yet again to members of St Kieran’s Athletic Club for an outstanding day at the Open Sports Day in Templemore on Sunday, April 7. Matt Pietrzykowski, Ben Guilfoyle and Kealan Dermody all attended the event with Matt coming in 2nd in the U-16 Boys 100m and 2nd in the long jump; Ben receiving 1st in the U-16 Boys long jump and Kealan taking home 3rd in the U-11 Boys turbo javelin.
Training continues behind Colaiste Mhuire on Wednesday from 6.30 to 7.30pm and on Sunday from 12.15 to 1.45pm.

St Vincent de Paul - St Vincent de Paul shop is now open in Rathdowney. They have a large range of new/ nearly new ladies, gents and children’s wear. Also ladies footwear and accessories. Spa Development/Fenians Lotto - The numbers drawn on April 8 were 19, 24, 27, 29 and there was one winner of the jackpot - Brid Kirwan. Congratulations Brid and as Brid is in third level education she will find plenty to spend her little windfall on. The promoter was Post Office. Next week’s jackpot is €2,000 and the draw is in Paschal’s Bar.
Community Playschool - The Community Playschool was closed while it was being re-decorated and it re-opened on April 8. The centre can cater for children from 2 years 8 months to 5 years. It is hoped to open an after school service and offer early years from 2 years 6 months from September. There will also be summer camps in July.
