Well done to all of the children from Scoil Naomh Fiachra, Clontubrid, who participated in the annual Schools Swimming Gala at the Watershed, Kilkenny, last Thursday (20th June 2013). The school won a record seven medals in the events. Medal winners included Corey Bowden (bronze, U8 front crawl); Alan Dunphy (gold, U9 front crawl); Eva Tallis (bronze, U9 front crawl); Niamh Holohan (gold, U9 back crawl); Jake D’Arcy (bronze, U11 front crawl); Dean Brophy (gold, U11 back crawl); and Ciara Norton (bronze, U13 back crawl). Others who qualified for and took part in the gala, many of whom got through their heats to the final, included Chloe Delaney, Hannah Crosby, Clodagh Ryan, Leah Walsh, Vicki Flood, Ruth Campion, Brandon Brophy, Charlie Brennan, Aidan Tallis, Luke Campion, Eoin Delaney, Eoin Kenny, Stevie Dunne and Jack Crosbie.


A large number of children from the school travelled to the Country Schools Swimming Gala, Cathal Tallis, Matthew Banville, James McEvoy, Richard McEvoy, Eibhan McEvoy, Martin McEvoy, Hugh Murphy, Michael McInerney, Roan Breen-Bolger, Ryan Breen-Bolger, Rory Kenny, Orna Maher, Ashleigh Doyle, Niamh McEvoy, Emer O’Carroll, Tessa Doyle, Eimear Tallis, Aine Kenny, Ellen O’Carroll and Holly Moore all took part and enjoyed the days swimming. Congratulations to Ellen O’Carroll who won bronzein her race. Many of the others won through in the heats to makethe final but were just pipped at the post for third place.


Lisdowney GAA are holding a Beach Party in Mackey’s, Gathabawn on Sat 13th July. Lots of Music, Food and Sand available on the night. Admission will be €10 on the door with funds going to the further development new juvenile/training pitch. All support from the community will be most welcome.


Relay for Life is coming to Kilkenny for the first time on July 20/21st at The Watershed. Anyone who has ever had to hear the words ‘You have cancer’ is a survivor and we want to celebrate survivors at Relay. We are planning to really spoil our survivors - they will be our VIP’s at the event and will open the Relay by walking the first lap of the track. There will be a special survivor marquee serving up some lovely food and refreshments and each survivor will receive a very special goody bag with lots of little treats in it! A fundraising disco, 2 Cool 4 School, will be held in Mackeys’ Bar, Gathabawn, on Saturday night, 3rd August 2013 (Bank Holiday Saturday night), in aid of the Scoil Naomh Fiachra, Clontubrid, Parents’ Council. Music is by Tracy Edwards. Prizes for best dressed schoolboy and schoolgirl! Come along and remember your school days. A great night of fun is guaranteed. Admission is just €5 and tickets are available from any parent of children in the school. All support will be greatly appreciated.


Well done to the Kilkenny Minor hurling team who had a great win over Dublin last Saturday, and especially to clubman Michael Kenny who played his part in the win scoring a point.


A summer barbque will be held in Mackeys of Gathbawn every Sunday from 2 to 5pm to bring the community together for a few hours. Mackeys are also now doing pizzas.

Come join our fun multi-activity summer camp and keep kids active while making friends and having fun. The camp is suitable for 3½ -12 year olds and runs from 19th August to 23rd August from 10am to 2.30pm at Erins Own GAA Grounds, Castlecomer. Our programmes are age appropriate and are a great foundation for any sport, teaching children the fundamentals of exercise – strength, flexibility, balance, endurance, agility and co-ordination in a safe and fun environment. Activities include: Fun games, team relays, multi-sports, soccer, dodgeball, arts and crafts, tag rugby, tumbling and gymnastics, obstacle courses and much more.Cost is €70 per child, sibling rate of €55, places are limited to allow for instructor child ratio, 50% deposit per child to guarantee a place. In the JJ Kavanagh North J.A.H.L. Semi-Final Lisdowney took on the Fenians on Tue evening in Freshford. Lisdowney played with the wind in the first half and went in with at half time lead of 1-10 to 0-07. Unfortunately this lead was not enough to keep a resurgent Fenians at bay in the second half and the game finished with Lisdowney on the wrong side of a 2-14 to1-13 scoreline.

The Junior A teams next game is in the League/Championship and is scheduled to be played on 5th July


The annual cemetry masses will be held throughout July at 7.30pm on the following dates: Lisdowney on Friday 12th, Rathbeagh on Monday 15th, Tifeaghna on Wednesday 17th, Clontubrid on Tuesday 23rd and Aharney on Friday 26th.


The numbers drawn in the Lisdowney GAA and Camogie Club Lotto on Monday, 17th June 2013, were 1,9,13 and 26. There was no winner. Next week’s jackpot is €5,600. The draw will be held on Mon 1st July 2013.


Helen Coogan has opened a new Montessori school in Lisdowney Resource Centre, which operates each weekday from 9 am to 12 noon. Helen will also collect children from school if required. The Kilkenny Branch of Arthritis Ireland provides a range of information, events and services for people of all ages, living in the County of Kilkenny with all forms of arthritis such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia.
