SPORTING PRESS IRISH OAKS FINAL
At Shelbourne Park on Saturday night last was won by the very impressive Locnamon Bridie in a blistering time of 28.23. Bridie was bred by local greyhound trainer Ger Langton, Lavistown ,who has bred many good greyhounds that run under the Locnamon prefix. Congratulations to Ger, trainer Paul Hennessy and owner Charlie Chalk.
Clara’s Junior B team played last Saturday night in the quarter-final of the Walsh Cup against Galmoy. From early exchanges both team were pretty even but it was Clara that opened the scoring with a pointed free from Brian Prendergast. Galmoy quickly followed this up and added 2 more soon after. Brian Prendergast and John Brennan added 2 points to bring the teams level before John Murphy gave Clara the lead with another point. Galmoy scored another point before Brian Prendergast put over another free for Clara. Galmoy scored 2 more points soon after to give them a one point lead. Both teams added pointed frees Clara’s coming from Brian Prendergast. Galmoy added another point before the half time whistle was sounded. Half time score Clara 0-6, Galmoy 0-8. The second half started with both teams swapping pointed frees Clara’s coming from Brian Prendergast. Clara got the next 3 points to give them the lead, 1 from John Murphy and 2 from Jason Byrne. Galmoy brought the teams level again with another point. Clara pushed on again and got the goal they were looking for. After a great ball across the Galmoy 20 meter line by Tom Langton, John Murphy gathered well and struck to the back of the net. Jason Byrne followed this with a point from a well taken 65. Galmoy pulled a point back before Jason Byrne got another point for Clara. With time running out Galmoy started pushing for a goal and landing high balls into the forwards got the goal they were fighting for. This left Clara with a 1 point lead but with 5 minutes to play. Clara got the next 3 points which turned out to be vital, the scores coming from Tom Langton, Noel Kehoe and a pointed free from Brian Prendergast. Galmoy threw everything at the Clara goal but the defence held strong with some great defending. Galmoy got a point with time nearly up and with winning the resulting puck out pushed for that equalising goal but the Clara defence held strong. The game ending Clara 1-15, Galmoy 1-12. Training takes place for underage teams (U6 to U12) for both Hurling and Camogie on Monday evenings from 7 to 8.15. New players are always welcome at any age level. G4M+O training is on Friday nights from 8 to 9.30. New members are always welcome from both inside and outside of Clara Parish.
DVD’s are on sale for the Intermediate finals played in 2012/2013. The DVD’s will be sold as a set. CLARA CAMOGIE CLUB
Two of our intermediate Camogie players Gemma Dowling and Leasa Byrne have been nominated to enter this years Kilkenny Batchelorette Competition. This is a charity event the proceeds of which go to Kilkenny Alzheimer’s Society and Meals on Wheels. The winner also receives €700.00 towards their chosen charity - Gemma has chosen to support St. Patrick’s Special Needs School on the Kells Road, and Leasa chosen charity is Epilepsy Ireland. There are seven contestants and the winner will be the girl with the most votes on the night of the competition which is on in the Set Theatre on 27th June. Gemma is a daughter of Patricia and John Dowling, Lavistown. She is a primary school teacher in Carrigeen. Leasa is a daughter of Brigid and Pat Byrne, Castlewarren. She is a student in Thurles and works part time in Mario’s. Both Girls are actively involved in sports including Clara Camogie club where they are not just a players but they also help out with coaching and fundraising events. The girls would dearly love to win this competition on behalf on their chosen charities and they need the support of their parish, family and friends to do so. So please give them your vote on the 27th June Set Theatre.

The excitement of pig racing comes to Kilkenny at the Castlewarren Pig racing festival on the 14th July, organised by Castlewarren Celtic FC. From 1pm a unique Fun Day for all the family in the grounds of the Bodhran Bar, side shows, rodeo, bouncy castles, slides. A great day not to be missed!

Every Thursday from 7 to 8 in Clara GAA Grounds. This is for 8 to 13 year olds. It is a fun introduction to Ladies Football for the underage setup.
