PRIDE OF PLACE - The organising committee meets in the BEAM Centre every Tuesday night at 7.30pm and extends a very warm welcome to anyone interested in helping to show our town at its very best when the judges from the Co-Operation Ireland Pride of Place 32 County Competition arrive in Bagenalstown on the afternoon of Thursday, June 21. Bagenalstown has been chosen to represent Co. Carlow and we now have a wonderful opportunity to promote our town.
The first stop will be the McGrath Hall where they will be greeted by entertainment outside the hall, with a Guard of Honour to welcome the judges and involvement by local schoolchildren and youth groups. Hosts Mary Foster and Cllr. Liam O’Brien will welcome the judges to Bagenalstown at the McGrath Hall and invite them to view the exhibition which will feature voluntary groups and organisations, local businesses, services etc. There will be a PowerPoint presentation about the town and our community, and the judges will meet local people The route will take in Kilree Street and down Main Street to our recently refurbished library, which is now a state of the art facility where they will be invited to look around by the Co. Librarian Josephine Coyne and librarians Bernie Brennan and Brigid Johnson.
The tour will continue to the Town Park and down to the Family Resource Centre where they will be introduced to the range of activities carried out in the Centre. An exhibition of
local crafts and artwork will be on display there. Following a visit to the BEAM Centre in Regent Street and a trip on the river to the Swimming Pool, the McGrath Park will be the final stop where there will be demonstrations of the range of sports played in the Park. The afternoon will conclude with a People’s Party for all the community and children’s entertainment in one area of the Park.
KCLR will have an outside broadcast unit in Bagenalstown on the day and will feature interviews with people involved in the organisation of the event.
We can all do our bit, whether by sweeping the path outside our property or brightening it up with a few window boxes or hanging baskets, your contribution is very important.
