NAOMH BRID - On Tuesday March 12th, the St. Patrick’s Ballyragget GAA club house was the venue

for a basic skills coaching workshop, which was directed by the Camogie

Association’s Regional Development Coordinator, Patrick Mullany. Representatives

attended from all over Co. Kilkenny and were enthralled by the professional

presentation and content of the workshop. Patrick explained the six basic skills and

offered many helpful hints on coaching young players .He also emphasized the value

of a club ‘nursery programme’ and insisted that players should only use hurleys of

appropriate length and weight. The importance of having all training sessions planned

in advance was also highlighted. After his presentation and a Q&A session, Patrick

divided the forty coaches into small groups, for some practical work. The positive

feedback was overwhelming and participants have requested another workshop,

which would concentrate on coaching goalkeepers and using the ball wall most

effectively. The Naomh Brid club was represented by Brendan Walshe, Aidan

Morrissey, Caroline Phelan, Mick Southgate, Noel Cummins, John Gunner, Martin

Foley and Seamus O’ Doherty. Our club was delighted to host this important

workshop and there was plenty of discussion about the key messages afterwards,

while the coaches enjoyed the traditional cuppa. Thanks to the club members who

provided much appreciated refreshments for all of the participants. Sincere thanks are

extended to Patrick for his excellent presentation, which included an informative hand

out and to Kilkenny Camogie Co. Board Chairman, Mike Wall, for arranging the

workshop . The young camogie players of Kilkenny will ultimately benefit from the

enhanced knowledge of their coaches and trainers. The Naomh Brid club is

committed to the five objectives in the National Camogie Association’s National

Development Plan (2010 -2015) – Growing participation, Improving performance,

Volunteer Development and Leadership, Enhancing Camogie’s Profile and Ensuring

Excellent Governance and Organisational Development. These objectives will be the

focus of the club executive’s work, throughout the coming season. The Camogie

Association, under the leadership of its President, Aileen Lawlor, is working

effectively to brand the game as a modern, well structured, community based

organization that offers opportunities for ladies to develop as players on the pitch and

leaders off the pitch. Naomh Brid is proud to make its contribution, towards the

realization of those aims.
