Lotto - The parish lotto with a jackpot of €6,200 was not won. Other winners were €30 Seosamh Murphy, €25 Fiona Ryan and €20 Marian Lynch. The lotto will be in the Durrow Inn on March 25 with a possible jackpot of €6,450. Tickets must be handed in before 9.30pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot.
Fishing - The club will, in conjunction with the Wooden bridge Paddlers, be holding a number of family days on the river. More details will be announced later but last year this family day proved to be very successful and both clubs look forward to having many family days during the summer season. Membership is available at Lawlor’s Gala, The Square, Durrow, Lawlor’s Florists, Bridge Gardens, Durrow and from Secretary Michael Walsh.
Durrow/Cullohill Parish Anglers are delighted to announce that they have signed the lease for Granstown Late and will during the year have an official opening. Work is currently being done on the lake and this facility will be a great asset to all anglers.
Scarecrow festival - Thanks to all the business who pledged their sponsorship for this year’s festival. If any community member or club would also like to make a donation we would be extremely grateful. Donations of over two hundred and fifty euro are tax deductible but any donation would be gratefully accepted. Please remember that you are not donating to the festival but to the regeneration of the square in Durrow.

Civil Defence - Durrow Civil Defence Unit are currently accepting applications for membership. The unit trains in first aid, rescue and firefighting and provides a wide range of services to the community in emergency situations and at public events. Daffodil Day - Durrow Development Forum are delighted to assist Mary Ryan in organising a fundraising event for the Irish Cancer Society. Couch to 5k - This programme has been designed to get just about anyone from the couch to jogging 5 km or thirty minutes in nine weeks. Genealogy - The launch of Ireland Reaching Out will be held in the Parish Center, Portlaois on April 4 at 8pm. in the year of the Gathering 2013 Ireland’s Reaching Out is an initiative to seek and encourage the decedents of these who left your parish to return home from around the world. Anyone interested in their community, local history, heritage, tourism, and genealogy are invited to get involved and learn more. This programme will be launched by Henry Healey and John Liston.
It is intended to hold a training course in Durrow in April ,the purpose of which is to train local people,(free of charge) in genealogy and ultimately create a database of decedents of Durrow Emigrant and invite the home for special events. Trout - Durrow/Cullohill parish Anglers held their first trout fishing competition of the season on March 17. It was for the Michael Walsh Cup and there were some lovely fish landed. The winner was Alan Dwyer, 2nd Tommy Coffey and 3rd was Fred Townsend Jnr. Juvenile winner was Daniel Brophy with Lee Coffey as runner up. The next trout fishing competition will be held on Sunday, March 31 and it will be for the Billy Lawlor Memorial Cup.
Our Lady’s Meadow - Our Lady’s Meadow Primary School Board of Management, Parents Council, Fundraising Committee wish to sincerely thank everyone who supported and participated in the fashion show on Friday night. It was a fantastic night of fashion and fun and a great start to the fundraising effort.
This year for the Flora Ladies Mini Marathon the Durrow Walkers have volunteered to participate on behalf of Our Lady’s Meadow. Their collective sponsorship will directly go to the school building funds. Voice of Laois - The Voice of Laois final will take place in the Castle Arms Hotel on Saturday May 18 and is open to singers between the age of 12 and 18 who live in the county. The winner will receive the Ronan Lawlor Memorial Cup and receive voice training from the Laois School of Music. Auditions will be held in Portlaois college on Tuesday April 16 and in the Castle Arms Hotel, Durrow on Wednesday April 17. Entries can be got by downloading the form from www.durrow.ie and closing date is Tuesday April 9.
Macra - Durrow/Abbeyleix Macra Na Feirme basketball teams in both men and women have qualified for the All-Ireland finals to be held in Ul Limerick on May 24. Kieran ‘Mono’ Monahan Memorial night - The Monahan family, extended family and committee of the Kieran ‘Mono’ Monahan Memorial night want to thank everyone who supported this event in any way. We especially want to thank everyone who donate items for the auction and raffle, who donated money, who too part in the wax or dye, the slave auction and who gave of their time and expertise to help make the night so successful. A total of €7,550 was raised and will be presented to the Aislinn Adolescent Treatment Centre Ballyragget on Tuesday, March 26 at a function in the Centre.
A special thank you to Declan and Stephanie Phelan for the use of their premises to hold the event. Once again a million thanks to everyone and hopefully the money raised will help some young people get help when they need it.
