Following Kilkenny’s exit from the 2013 All-Ireland championship race, the Kilkenny County Board, wisely has put back the next round of the league/championship to the weekend of the 24th August to give the county panelists a well earned rest and time to recover from their national league and championship campaigns. In fact, the senior team has been fixtured to play St. Martin’s, in the fourth round of 2013 league/championship campaign on Friday evening, 23rd August.

The July draw took pl;ace on Wednesday night last. A very understrenght, club Junior “A” team went down to Barrow Rangers on a 2-12 to 0-12 scoreline in Friday night’s Northern junior championship fixture. Deprived of the club’s three county minor players, Richie Hayes and the injured Ben Lahart the team struggled throughout the first half and ended up 2-9 to 0-3 in arrears at the break. To their credit they “raised the bar” in the second period, outscoring the deserving winners, by 0-9 to 0-3, with a determined display of hurling but ran out of time in their bid to pull back the twelve point cushion the Paulstown side had,in reserve, at the end of the first half.

The club’s U-16 “B” team “gave their all” in a brave effort to stave off defeat against Conahy Shamrocks side in the first round of the Northern U-16 “B” championship in Muckalee on Friday evening. However, despite their very best efforts they were forced to concede defeat to a strong Conahy side on a 3-20 to 3-15 scoreline in a highly entertaining championship fixture. Credit to the players, themselves and their mentors, Noel Morrissey, David Tyrrell and Eddie Kelly for their honest endeavours over the league and championsip season.

Word has come through that the county senior football final against Muckalee has been fixed for Sunday, 1st.September.

St.Patrick’s parish native and former James Stephens,Kilkenny U-16 county championship winner, Eoin Everard recently joined a select group of Irish sub-4 minute milers. This outstanding running fete, by the Kilkenny City Harriers athlete, in recent days puts Eoin’s name up alongside some of the great Irish milers such as “the chairman of the boards”, Eamon Coghlan, the late, Noel Carroll and Frank Murphy. To complete a glorious week, Eoin went on to win the National 1,500 meters title, in a nail biting finish against West Waterford clubman, David McCarthy in a rain soaked Morton Stadium, Santry, at the weekend. Hearthy congratulations, Eoin on two memorable achievements.

Congratulations to the U-14 “B” team on their emphatic, 6-17 to 4-4 victory over

St.Patrick’s Ballyraggett in the U-14 H.L.”C” shield semi-final during the week. This victory merits the young James stephens side a place in the final against Dicksboro. Once again this result reflects the great work being done by the team memtors, in this case, former Runai, Fergal Walsh and Ollie Grace.

Congratulations to longstanding social club member, Noel Casey who won the highly competitive president’s prize competition in Kilkenny Golf Club with a fine round of golf, which earned him 44 points over the eighteen holes of a testing golf course. For his efforts Noel was presented with a beautiful watch by Kilkenny G.C. president, Tom Gunning. Noel’s son, Damien is a selector/ mentor with the club’s U-9 development squad...
