The Parents Council will have school uniforms on sale on Wednesday & Thursday 14th & 15th from 5-8 p.m. ; Tuesday 20th 2-5 p.m. and Wednesday 21st & Monday 26th from 5-8 p.m. in the Community School. The death has taken place at St. Lukes Hospital, Kilkenny of Michael Dwyer, Knocknadogue. A quiet, kind and reserved man he was an early riser and was a diligent member of the farming community. He enjoyed the daily visits to the local SOS centre where he was an accomplished sportsman winning numerous medals. He was an avid bingo player, often travelling five nights of the week to play courtesy of his favourite means of transport, his tractor. The large turnout at the obsequies reflected the high esteem in which the family is held in the area.

He was laid to rest in the Parish Cemetery after Requiem Mass celebrated in the Church of the Immaculate Conception by Fr. Joe Campion C.C. Castlecomer ; assisted by Fr. Larry Wallace P.P. Muckalee ; Fr. John McEvoy P.P. Goresbridge/ Paulstown ; Fr. Ian Doyle, Kiltown ; Fr. Liam Shore P.E. Castlecomer. He is survived by his mother Margaret ; brothers Tom, Vincent ; sisters Catherine, Ann, Marney ; nieces ; nephews, aunts, uncles, grand nieces, grand nephews other relatives and a host of friends.


The death has taken place of Paddy Brennan, Sidegate, Moneenroe. He went to his eternal reward in a place very close to his heart the District Hospital where he spend many a happy respite stay. In a lovely touch as Paddy left the hospital for the last time the entire staff formed a guard of honour. The former miner will be fondly remembered in the heart of the Colliery as a man of peace, dignity and generosity. One of natures gentlemen he loved music, especially the accordion, the bit of chat and appreciated the company of his neighbours in the Sidegate and surrounds.

He was laid to rest in Moneenroe Cemetery after Requiem Mass celebrated in the Church of the Sacred Heart by Fr. Martin Tobin P.P. Clogh assisted by Fr. Liam Shore PE. Castlecomer.

He is survived by his family, neighbours and a host of friends.


Bollards Golf Society next outing is to Castlecomer Golf Club on August 10th. Timesheet in Bollards. 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

The Lotto Jackpot is currently €7,800. Tickets can be purchased at a number of outlets in Castlecomer. The Lotto has been a success for Erins Own GAA because of the dedicated volunteers that sell tickets and meet every week to have the lotto draw and check every entry twice for winners. The Erins Own Club would like to say a very sincere thank you to everyone that gives their time helping and supporting the lotto. It is through their commitment that the club is able to compete and improve facilities for everyone.

Many congratulations are extended to Nessa Millet, Massford a members of St. Abbans A.C. who was selected on the Irish team for the European Junior championships in Rieti, Italy. Nessa was selected in the 400m hurdles, an event she has made her own over the past two years, in Italy Nessa recorded a personal best time and in doing so represented her club, county and country with distinction. In recognition of her wonderful achievement a celebratory function was held in Moneenroe Hall which was packed to capacity. Unknown to many the current world champion and Olympic silver medallist over 400m hurdles Lashinda Demus of the USA was among the large crowd who had come along to wish Nessa Millet all the best in her debut in the European Junior Championships.
