ANNUAL CEMETERY MASSES - The dates for the Annual Cemetery Masses have been finalized. Crosshill Cemetery – Friday June 29th at 7.30 p.m. (Male Voice Choir). Parish Cemetery – Friday July 6th at 7.30 p.m. (Parish Choir).
ACADEMY 2012 - The highly successful Deen Celtic AFC Academy 2012 commences on Monday July 9th to Friday 13th July. It is now in its third year. Final Registration takes place at Deen Celtic Clubhouse on Saturday 9th June from 3 to 4pm. Registration forms already completed can be returned to Schoolboy Managers or any member of Deen Celtic Committee The Cost of the Academy is 60 Euro. A Kit is supplied with camp includes following clubwear, a Windbreaker, Tee-Shirt, Socks & Gym Bag. This camp is not for members only. It is run to introduce children to the basics skills of soccer. Should an individual wish to sign for the club thereafter, the player has some of the Kit required for Deen Celtic included to help reduce costs to families in the difficult times. DEEN CELTIC AGM - Glowing tributes were paid to both Eamon Nolan and Jimmy Wallace who were stepping down from their respective executive positions. In his capacity as Chairman Eamon Nolan has guided the Club well over many years and also played a major role in every positive development at the Prince Grounds. As Schoolboy Secretary Jimmy Wallace showed commitment above and beyond the call of duty, probably his greatest contribution to the Club was the setting up of the Academy which has gone from strength to strength. There was a plea for greater involvement from parents, ex-players, junior players in the running, organising and managing of underage teams. Some teams have enough to enter 2 selections at their grade for the coming season.
The club would also like to thank every business for their generous sponsorship throughout the year and look forward to continuing financial support for the new season, it is appreciated.
Membership for all grades has been set. Celtic are currently looking for applicants for the management of the junior team (any applicant applying for the position needs apply to club in writing to the Hon. Secretary)
LIBRARY LATEST - Well done to the 5th Class Pupils of the Presentation Convent who have been taking knitting lessons from our Nattering Knitters Group lately. The Irish Wheelchair Association is currently exhibiting a selection of wonderful paintings in the Library. “We’re just MAD ABOUT BOOKS” the new Childrens’ Book Club met for the first time this week. Each meeting will take place on the first Tuesday of the month after school at 3.30. Boys and girls aged 8-12 yrs are welcome! The winners of the Titanic Art Competition are: Cara Brennan Conahy NS, Abbey Harris Wandesforde NS and Fiona Byrne Ballyragget NS. The School Prize goes to Wandesforde NS. Thanks goes to Michael Moylan for bringing his fascinating Titanic Show to over 150 local school children in the Library last week!
INFORMATION EVENING - The Presentation Convent Primary N.S. will host an open/information evening on Thursday, June 7th at 7pm for the parents of all incoming pupils in September 2012. The evening will showcase some of the schools resources and facilities as well as familiarising parents with the work of the school and what they and their child can expect from this exciting and crucial first year in school. We encourage all who have enrolled or are considering enrolling their child in the school to attend this important event.

MRS. A. DOOLEY - The sudden death of Anna Dooley (Nee Doyle), Firoda has come as a great shock to all in the community. She will be fondly remembered as a quiet, kind and caring woman. At the tender age of 18 years she emigrated to England where she took up the nursing profession. She worked as a Nurse in the Intensive Care Department at Homerton Hospital, Hackney, London for some 25 years. Like her sister Helen she was synonymous in the art of cooking, her culinary skills were enjoyed far and near. Her home was her castle and she took great pride in the garden.
She was laid to rest in Crosshill Cemetery after Requiem Mass celebrated in the Church of the Immaculate Conception by Fr. Joe Campion C.C. Castlecomer ; assisted by Msgr. Michael Ryan P.P. Castlecomer ; Fr. Larry Wallace P.P. Muckalee ; Fr. Liam Shore P.E. Castlecomer.
She is survived by husband Danny ; daughters Karen, Amanda (England) ; sister Helen ; granddaughter Aine ; other relatives and a large circle of friends.
MR. P. READ - The death has occurred of Peter Read late of Naas Co. Kildare and formerly of Durban South Africa. He was the father of Sean Read, Yellow Road and on April 21st was very proud to be in Comer for the Confirmation of his grandson.

CHARITY CYCLE - A Charity Cycle for both kids and adults will be held on Saturday with proceeds going to Wandesforde N.S. Registration, Adults €20 ; Children €10 ; Family €30, is at the school at 9 a.m. 5K Kids Fun Cycle starts at 10 a.m. All children participating must be accompanied by an adult. OLD TRAFFORD HERE WE GO - Ballyragget Community Playground Committee are holding a cabaret in Ronans Lounge Ballyragget on Saturday the 9th of June at 9pm. A monster draw will take place on the night. Prizes include breakaways worth €500 and €250, tickets to the first Manchester Utd game of the season 12/13 with €100 spending money and many more on the night. They are also hosting a fun day on the Green on June 24th from 12.30pm with lots of games and fun activities to take part in. There will be a barbecue where you can grab a bite to eat, fancy dress competition, pet show, hurling competitions, soccer competitions, face painting, music and much more. JUNIOR HURLING - Erins Own entertained Slieverue in the All County Junior League on Friday evening last in Ballycomey. The Comer lads got off to a flier and were six points in front heading to the first quarter. With some beautiful points coming from both play and frees some of the scores were of the highest order with most of the forwards getting in on the act. At half time Comer led on a scoreline of 2-8 to 0-3. The second half was a much closer affair as Slieverue improved to reduce the big Comer lead. With ten minutes remaining the lead was cut to three points but the Comer lads rallied and with a few lovely worked points from Daragh Brennan and Ciaran McDermott the Comer lads held on for victory on a scoreline of 2-15 to 2-12. UNDER 14 LEAGUE - In the under 14 league Erin’s Own made the long trip to Tullogher Rosbercon on Friday evening last to take on the locals in the third round of the under 14 league. Played in ideal conditions the Comer boys set out their intentions from the first minute and raced into an early lead with all the Comer players playing very well. The match was as good as over by half time and with all panellists getting game time the Comer boys ran out convincing winners on a scorline of 8-12 to 1-6 to keep up their winning start to this years under 14 league. Golf Classic - The seventh annual Erin’s Own GAA Golf classic takes place on Friday the 29th June in Castlecomer Golf Club. 25TH Anniversary Minor Roinn A Champions Celebrations - On the 29th June Erin’s Own will honour the victorious Minor team who won the Roinn A Campionship in 1987 for the 1st time ever in the clubs history.
This celebration and presentation to the victorious team will take place in Castlecomer Golf Club on the night of the Golf Classic. All members past and present are invited along to this social event with music and craic guaranteed.
