Corpus Christi procession

CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION - A Parish Corpus Christ Procession will be held on Thursday, June 7 beginning at 7 pm from Lisdowney Church to Lisdowney GAA Grounds. This is a local celebration in preparation of the Eucharistic Congress taking place later in June. The First Communion children of the parish will participate in the ceremony. It will be followed by an open air Mass. The GAA club will provide a cup of tea for everyone in the Community Centre after the mass.

BAR-B-QUE - The last Saturday in June, the 30th, has been ticked for the Hurling Club’s summer bar-b-que in Mackey’s of Gathbawn. Please show up on the night and support.

SEMINAR FOR PARENTS - Kilkenny County Childcare Committee are holding a Free Parents Seminar for parents of children aged from birth to six years on the 11th June 2012 in Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel from 7pm-9.30pm. The seminar will be facilitated by Dr. Mary Roche, Education Consultant, and will explore how reading books aloud can support young children’s early language development. PARISH SEVENS - The Lisdowney parish sevens were held last Saturday. The six captains were Niall Brennan, Ben Tallis, Mark Fitzpatrick, Laurence Campion, Emma McEvoy and Eimear Walsh. In Group 1 Niall Brennan beat Eimear Walsh 5:8 to 3:4. Eimear Walsh beat Emma McEvoy 2:2 to 0:5 while Niall Brennan beat Emma McEvoy 2:6 to 2:2.

In Group 2 Ben Tallis beat Laurence Campion 5:2 to 3:6, Mark Fitzpatrick beat Ben Tallis 6:3 to 5:2 while Mark Fitzpatrick beat Laurence Campion 5:6 to 1:2.

The SAUCER FINAL was a highly contested match between Laurence and Emma, when the final whistle blew it was Emma 3:4 , Laurence 3:3. Well done to both teams for a very competitive match.

The SHIELD FINAL took place at the same time with Ben Tallis and Eimear Walsh contesting this title. This was a high scoring match finishing on 5:4 to 5:0 to Eimear Walsh.

TEAMS - Ben Tallis, Claire O’Carroll, Aoibheann Murphy, Luke Campion, Eibhan McEvoy, Willie Cahill, Shane Grace, Harry Kennedy and Eimear O’Carroll.

TEAM - Eimear Walsh, David O’CArroll, Holly Moore, Oisin Quirke, Luke Moore, Jack Sullivan, Charlie Brennan, Ruth Campion and Ciara Doyle.

The CUP FINAL was the last match of the day, Niall’s team dominated for the first five minutes but Mark’s side then got into the game, half time score 2:1 to Mark and 1:2 to Niall. The second half saw both sides perform very well and by full time it was a draw match 3:3 to 2:6

So it went to extra time and Niall’s side were up a goal at the half. The last half saw a tremendous effort on both sides but Niall came out on top by a point. Niall Brennan 3:7 to Mark Fitzpatrick 4:3.

UNDER 8 GIRLS - Well done to Lisdowney U8 team who played a great match against Freshford on Saturday week last.

JUNIOR HURLING - Lisdowney faced James Stephens in the Junior All county hurling League in James Stephen’s last Friday. This was a very one sided affair and little could be taken from the match by either side. Lisdowney dominated throughout and the final score was 3:23 to 11 points.

The Lisdowney Junior team travelled to Croke Park last weekend to participate in a fitness assessment which the club had won in a draw. They were put through their paces in various tests and learned a lot from this. They will return in 8 weeks for a follow up.

UNDER 14 HURLING saw Lisdowney meet Piltown at home in their third match, under the watchful eye of Podge. Lisdowney took an early lead and maintained it throughout the entire match. Half time score 2:6 to 1:1 Credit must be extended to the Piltown keeper who never gave up and kept the goal tally for Lisdowney well down. It was a Good team performance from Lisdowney. Full time score of 5:10 to 1:2

LISDOWNEY SEVENS - This well renowned and very popular tournament, which again was held on three weekends in September, is now to be run off on the last two weekends of July, and the first weekend in August - again to accommodate the very busy underage club scene in September. It is hoped that even more clubs will participate this year than previous years.

REELING IN THE YEARS - Last weekend, Gathabawn celebrated ‘Reeling in the Years’ with a presentation in Gathabawn Church on Saturday and Mass in thanksgiving for the refurbishment of Scoil na Crion Coille on Sunday (3rd June 2012) followed by a short blessing at the school, the cutting of the ribbon and the raising of the new Green Flag. The Gathabawn School Choir took part in the Mass.

WHOLE SCHOOL EVALUATION - A Whole School Evaluation will take place in Scoil Na Crion Coille, Gathabawn, on Monday and Tuesday, 11th and 12th June 2012.

LISDOWNEY LOTTO- There was no winner of last week’s Lisdowney GAA and Camogie Club Lotto Draw. Numbers drawn were 2, 8, 24 and 28. Match 3 winners were Gerry Warren, Mary Devlin and Lucy Dunne. Next week’s jackpot is €3,500. The draw will held in Carmel’s in Lisdowney, on Monday11th June 2012.

EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS - A free bus to Croke Park has been organised for the Eucharistic Congress Mass on the 17th June 2012. Names for the bus should be given to Eilis Costelloe as soon as possible. Tickets for the Eucharistic Congress Mass on the 17th June 2012 are available to purchase for €40 by calling 01-2981122. Parishes, schools and homes are encouraged to decorate their premises to welcome the Eucharistic Congress to Ireland. Congress flags and bunting can be purchased through Irish Wholesale Flags directly on 093 42024 or Irish Rail/Iarnrod Eireann will operate special trains for pilgrims from Waterford/Kilkenny going to the Eucharistic Congress.Train Times are as follows: Tuesday, 12th June Leaving Waterford 6.40 am, Thomastown 7.03, Kilkenny 07.18, Muine Bheag7.37 arriving in Sandymount (5 mins walk from RDS) Dublin at approx.9.30am. The return train leaves Sandymount station at 10 pm. Sunday, 17th June 2012: Leaving Waterford 9.35am, Thomastown 9.58. Kilkenny 10.13, Muine Bheag10.31 arriving at Connolly Station (10 minutes walk from Croke Park) at 12midday. The return train leaves Connolly at 6.10 pm. For these trains to run, booking is essential and needs to be done immediately. As part of the preparation for the Eucharistic Congress, there will be adoration every Friday evening in Lisdowney Church from 7 - 8 pm. Mass will be celebrated on Friday evenings at 8 pm.

CEMETERY MASSES - Cemetery Masses will be held in Lisdowney on Friday, 6th July 2012, Rathbeagh on Monday, 9th July 2012, Tifeaghna on Wednesday, 11th July 2012, Clontubrid on Tuesday, 17th July 2012 and Aharney on Friday, 20th July 2012. All masses will commence at 7.30 pm.
