Retirement - A Golf Classic is being held this coming Friday to mark the retirement of local Garda Denis Deasy from the force. The event is being held in aid of L’Arche Community in Kilmoganny (Where Denis was mostly based). It is being held in Mountain View Golf Course. Anyone not able to attend can make a donation to L’Arche as an alternative. Wishing Denis all the best in his retirement.
Knockmoylan - A Mass to celebrate 200 years of the New Chapel in Knockmoylan will take place on Friday 22 June in Knockmoylan. A Photographic exhibition will also take place. Anyone with photos should forward them to Fr. Kehoe (with a return name and address) as soon as possible. There will also be refreshments after the Mass in the grounds.
Ballyhale - The Development Association has been working away over the past few weeks to clean and brighten the village – as well as planting in public areas. They would be very happy to have more volunteers join them. Meanwhile local business ‘Sheff’s’, run by Ciara Fennelly and husband John recently got a face-lift. The old Shamrocks dressing rooms also got a fresh coat of paint and has featured twice on the Sunday Game – as the backdrop to players’ interviews, including Henry Shefflin!
County Hurling - Henry Shefflin’s road to recovery seems to be going well – he has played in several matches now, with no ill effects. Michael Fennelly is recovering also, albeit a little slower than first anticipated. Meanwhile both Colin Fennelly and TJ Reid are in flying form and no doubt looking forward to the massive challenge that will be the Dublin game.
Shamrocks - Michael Hoyne and colleagues are busy organising this year’s Shamrocks Golf Classic. Those interested in taking part should now be asking would-be teammates or would-be sponsors if they are also interested.
Congratulations - Congratulations to Grace Fennelly and Tadhg Hunt who were married last week. Grace is the eldest daughter of Michael & Margaret Fennelly, Castlebanny and is a stalwart of the Ballyhale Camogie Club. Tadhg is the son of Tom and Daphne Hunt, Dungarvan, Co. Kilkenny. His father Tom was for many years the principal of Scoil Aireagail, Ballyhale. The wedding took place in Thomastown (where the couple are now living) and was celebrated by priests from both Parishes – Fr. Dan Bollard (Thomastown) and Fr. Peter Kehoe O.Carm (Ballyhale). The reception was apparently held in the Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny. We wish them a long and happy life together!
Birthdays - Happy Birthday to former Ballyhale man (and now Knocktopher man) John Kennedy whose birthday was during the week. Also celebrating a Birthday this week is our Parish priest – Fr. Peter Kehoe!
