OPENING OF EXHIBITION-There was a good attendance at the opening of “The Drawing Class of 2012”, featuring an exhibition of the work of the Bennettsbridge Art Group over the year. Martha Bolger, Community Education Officer with the VEC, who opened the exhibition was very impressed with the standard of work on show and said that the progression since the last exhibition was marked.
Lin Cowley presented Martha Bolger with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the group. Joan Cleere welcomed everyone to the opening and thanked her fellow members for their help in preparing the hall for the event. She expressed regret that Julie Moorhouse, tutor to the group was unable to attend. Family members and friends enjoyed a glass of wine and finger food as they looked at the displays. Also in attendance were Councillor Jane Galway and Councillor Michael O’Brien. The exhibition continues this weekend , Saturday and Sunday after masses and afternoons, 2 – 4 pm.
WEDDING BELLS-The marriage was solemnised in St Michael’s Church, Danesfort, between, Rosie Hayes, daughter of Rose and the late Billy Hayes, Kilree and Dan Stevens, son of Fred and Jackie Stevens, Portsmouth. Celebrant was Rev James Murphy, P.P. St Canice’s, cousin of the bride. The bride was attended by her friend , Geraldine Ward and her two nieces, Rachel Monahan(Kilree) and Cassie Waters(Carlow).
The bride wore a full length strapless gown with hand sewn beading and train. The bridesmaids chose three quarter length dresses in firebrand red. Pageboy was Samuel Hayes (Kilree) nephew of the bride and flower girl was Aisling Sibley, niece of the bride.
Best man was, Marvin Bulmer, friend of the groom and groomsmen were, Robert Knapp and Chris Eldergill, friends of the groom.
Matt Stevens, Martyn Stevens and Shane Waters acted as ushers.
The lessons were read by, Ann Hayes, sister of the bride and Jackie Stevens, Mother of the groom.
Prayers of the faithful were recited by, Matt Stevens, Martin Stevens, Liz Sibley and Liam Hayes, family members of the bride and groom.
The offertory gifts were presented by, Rose and Jackie, mothers of the bride and groom respectively.
Music throughout the ceremony was by Tina Kavanagh.
After the ceremony the guests were welcomed to a reception in the Newpark Hotel by Rose Hayes and Fred and Jackie Stevens. The party included family and friends from Vietnam, Australia, England and Scotland.
The honeymoon is being spent in Australia after which the couple will return to London where Rosie is a primary school teacher and Dan is employed in the financial services area.
GOLF-The Ray Hennessy Memorial Outing organised jointly by the Bennettsbridge and Thomastown Golf Society’s attracted a large entry. The outing was held in Gowran Park Golf Course on Bank Holiday Monday. Winners were, John Lennon(42), 2nd, Sarah Molloy(41), Mark Delehaunty(40), 4th Derek Dack(39), 5th, Seamus Lee(38), 6th, Dan Stallard(37). Guest, Richie Lowry(34), Front Nine, Brian Blanchfield(21), Back Nine(John Skehan) Meal and presentation was held in The Ouncel House, Dungarvan. Next outing will be the President’s(Michael Fitzpatrick) on the 29th September and the venue will be Borris.

SOCCER-Junior: Pre Season training is going well with good numbers at each session. Our A team will play their first match on Sunday the 26th of August against Callan Utd.
Schoolboys-Our registration night was held last week and was very successful. If you have not already signed please contact your Manager as all parents must sign the registration form. If your child was born in 2005 he qualifies to play with our Under 8 team this year. Please contact Lorraine Holohan on 087 747 5421 for more details.
The schoolboys section is very strong within the club and the teams we are entering this year are as follows: U8, U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U15 & U17. The schoolgirls section will have teams in U11 and U17. We are hoping to expand the schoolgirls section so if there are any U13’s interested please contact Lorraine.

Bennettsbridge Karate Club - Classes in Karate for Kids will resume in Bennnettsbridge Community Centre every Monday from 3.15pm - 4pm starting Monday 3rd September 2012. To enrol your child in the classes please call 086 3668669.
The ‘After-School’ Kids Only Karate Class is for boys and girls aged between 4 years and 12 years old. Members of the club will be taught karate techniques and self-defence drills. There will also be a strong focus on physical fitness. Plenty of fun and games will also be incorporated in to the classes.
