Award - This is the fifth year of the First Irish Festival where Ireland, Europe and North America have had their plays performed for the first time in New York 72 playwrights in total.
For the last four years awards were given to best actor, actress ,productions, different categories etc.
This year the award ceremony was hosted at The Consul General of Ireland’s Residence Noel Kilkenny in New York - his penthouse on 52nd floor(Breathtaking views).
It was decided this year only one award would be given to an artist who showed outstanding dedication to the Arts and that was Jo Kinsella, from Clogga, Mooncoin. “The Origin Theatre Company proudly presented The 1st Irish Achievement Award to Jo Kinsella for Remarkable contributions to 1st Irish Theatre Festival 2012”
Jo started her acting career with the local Moondharrig Players in Mooncoin Died whilst on holidays
Death - Michael (Mick) Tobin, 13 Suir Crescent, Mooncoin died unexpectedly on holidays in Turkey. The funeral was from his home to Mooncoin parish Church, requiem mass was celebrated on Friday last and the burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Deepest sympathy to his wife Kathleen, his family, relatives and friends. The late Jim O’ Neill - Jim O’Neill, Corluddy, Carrigeen, Mooncoin, Co. Kilkenny and late of Belmont Road, Ferrybank died suddenly on Tuesday last. The funeral was from Power’s Funeral Home, Ferrybank to St. Kevin’s Church, Carrigeen. Burial followed requiem mass on Thursday last. Deepest sympathy to his family, relatives and friends on their sad loss.
Scrap Metal - The parents association’s of the three Primary schools in Mooncoin parish will hold a scrap metal collection in the future. More details later.
Open night - Colaiste Cois Siuire Mooncoin will hold an open night on Thursday 25th October from 7-9pm. 5th & 6th class students and their parents are cordially invited to attend. Further info from the school at 051 895112 during school hours.
Irish Kidney Association - Thanks to all that subscribed to the Irish Kidney Association’s church gate collection recently. Some fund raising events will be held later in the year and kidney transplant recipients will visit some school’s to tell their stories about being on dialysis and to bring about the awareness of organ donors.
