Stoneyford 10k road race -The 4th Running of the AAI Registered Stoneyford 10k challenge took place last Sunday on a beautiful morning with a great turn out of over 450 participants. The race is a challenge both by name and nature and growing in great popularity enticing competition from around the country. The National 10k Champion, Brian Maher of Kilkenny City Harriers(KCH) ledthe field from the start and took the honours for a third time (2010 & 2012) to great applause from the large crowd at the finish line. Hot on Brian’s heels was David McPherson also KCH. Ruairi O’Donnell from Ferrybank AC was placed third, Tony Kenny placed fourth, Ray Lonergan KCH fifth, Val Gunner Gowran sixth. Holding her title, the first woman over the line was Siobhan Doherty, Borrisokane (35.40) with a seventh overall placing.
New to the challenge this year was the inaugural 5k juvenile race. The 5k had 115 runners and was won in a great time by Cormac Buggy, Gowran Ac (17.29). Chloe Springer Nolan for Tinryland AC (21.38) won the juvenile girls with an equally impressive time.

Bonus Ball- The winner of the bonus ball competition run by Stoneyford Soccer Club for this week is Jason Power no 32.
Foroige-Efforts are underway to re-open Stoneyford Foroige Club now that the hall refurbishment is complete. An information evening will be held on Thursday May 23 at 8pm in Stoneyford hall. Rosie O’Brien, Regional Development Officer will be in attendance and will be available to speak to members of the community about what the organisation has to offer the young people and adult volunteers who are interested.
Foroige has expanded its service offering and there is the opportunity to establish a junior Foroige club for 10 - 11 yr olds along with the traditional club for 12 yrs and over.
