PRESENTATION SISTERS 175 YEARS IN BAGENALSTOWN - A Parish Day of joyful celebration and thanksgiving for the Presentation Sisters in Bagenalstown will take place on Saturday, May 18 next. A warm welcome is extended to everyone to attend all or part of this event.
The programme for the day is as follows: The BEAM Centre and garden, which is the site of the former Presentation Convent and National School in Regent Street, will be open for the day and will include a display of memorabilia of great interest. At 3pm there will be an unveiling of a plaque and lantern dedicated to Nano Nagle, founder of the Presentation Sisters. This will be in the garden which is now called the Convent Garden. A souvenir booklet is being prepared. Tea and coffee will be available. 4.30pm. a pageant, exhibition and slide show will take place in the Queen of the Universe National School. 6pm: Eucharistic Celebration in St. Andrew’s Church.
Following Holy Mass there will be an exhibition in the Presentation De La Salle College where a tree will be planted to mark the occasion. A plaque dedicated to the Presentation Sisters will also be unveiled. Refreshments will be provided. Everyone is welcome to join in the celebrations on this day of thanksgiving.
GRANDPARENTS’ MASS - Queen of the Universe will be celebrating a Mass in honour of grandparents on May 2 in St. Andrew’s Parish Church.
COUNTRY FAIR - The Duckett’s Grove Country Fair will be held on Sunday May 5 from 11am to 6 p.m. featuring a whole range of activities and entertainment suitable for all the family, including traditional craft demonstrations, a falconry display by Woodlands Falconry and a large craft and artisan food market. For children us there is free face painting and nature trails at 2pm and 4pm. with Una Halpin of Wildways Adventures. A pet’s corner features ducks, chickens, geese, pot bellied pigs, rabbits and lots more. Musical entertainment will be available throughout the day together with horse drawn carriage rides by Carlow and District Trap and Carriage Riders Club. Admission €7 per car. BALLYLOUGHAN GUILD ICA - Ballyloughan Guild ICA Committee and monthly meeting was held in the Castle Hall, Ballyloughan on Monday, April 15. Margaret Minchin, President presided. Discussions were held on upcoming events, ideas, outings and activities for the coming year. Guests for this month’s meeting were Mary & Ann who did Laughter Yoga, which was very interesting and entertaining. Balance of payment for outing to Cork in July is to be paid to Ann Geoghegan by May 18. Next meeting will be on Monday, May 20 at 8 pm and there will be a talk on safety in our homes by An Gardai. BALLINKILLEN CAMOGIE CLUB - The Under 8 team had a super result against MLR on Tuesday evening last in Ballinkillen, with a final score of 4 - 0 to Ballinkillen.
