CELEBRATIONS - Excitement and fond memories were the order of the night recently when parishioners from the 3 communities got together to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Fr. Richard Phelan, PP, Kilmanagh and his retirement from the position and also the end of Fr. O’Shea’s curacy in Ballycallan parish. Tributes were paid to both men by MC John Dunphy and Fr. tom Murphy for their service to the parish. Presentations on behalf of the parishioners were made on the night by Jonny Keane representing Kilmanagh, Bree Harrison representing Ballycallan and Geraldine Walsh representing Killaloe.

The mass and get together afterwards in Ballycallan Hall was a true parish occasion and a worthy tribute to the hard work and dedication of Fr. Phelan and Fr. O’Shea and a mark of the esteem in which both men are held. They are both wished every good wish for the future.

WELCOME FR. LORCAN - A new chapter in the parish has started in the arrival of Fr. Lorcan Moran. He is wished the very best for his time in the Kilmanagh, Ballycallan and Killaloe parishes.

YOUNG PRIESTS SOCIETY - The annual general meeting of St. Joseph’s Young Priests’ Society was held following 7:30 mass in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Kilmanagh. While some of the members were unable to attend the group were privileged to welcome two new members to the branch. Joe Meagher, diocesan President of the Society gave a talk on how everyone should be truly happy to be members of a truly great society whose one great aim is a prayer for vocations to the priesthood and religious life, and prayer for priests and religions everywhere.

Fr. Willie Purcell, National Vocations Co-ordinator, gave an excellent talk at a meeting in All Hallows College. He said there is great need at the moment for priests to encourage their congregations in a society that feel hopeless. There is a need also for priests to proclaim the presence of God into the future. On behalf of St. Joseph’s Young Priests Society wish Fr. Kieran O’Shea, who was spiritual director, many happy years in the vineyard of the Lord.
