GOLF - Freshford Golf Society held their Captains Prize on 15th September in Faithlegg, County Waterford. It was a great day with over 30 golfers turning up for the group’s last outing. Shane McGree, Captain awarded his first prize to James Farrell – 40points (8) Second prize went to Jonathan Doheny -38pts (21) Third was Shane himself on 36 pts (13) Fourth – JJ Tobin – 36pts (16) Fifth- Liam Hickey – 35pts (22) and Sixth Mick McKillen – 34pts (13). Front Nine went to Nigel Crosby - Back Nine –Graeme O’Flaherty. Player of the Year was JJ Tobin who received a Memorial Cup which was put up this year in memory of the late Martin McGree. The Society would like to thank everyone for a very successful year and their Sponsors Kavanaghs Bar and Farells Bar and would like to welcome their incoming Captain for next year – Graeme O’Flaherty who recently announced his engagement to local girl Charlotte Brennan.
TOTS TO TEENS - Tots to teens Group held their AGM recently in the Community Hall, Freshford. There was a good attendance on the night and Mary Crosby was re-elected as Chairperson. Secretary is Janet Bergin and Karen Brophy Treasurer. PREO is Caroline Bowden. Rehearsals will take place in the Community Hall every Monday evening form 4 – 6pm commencing on this week. VOLUNTEERS - Kilkenny Carlow Contract is a Community based voluntary organization for older people covering Kilkenny and Carlow area and are presently looking for additional volunteers to commit to one or to hours per week to befriend/visit older people who are living alone in the area. The Group are having a stand at the Information Day for Older People being held at the Mill Family Resource Centre on this Thursday 20th September. SOCCER - Freshford Town had a number of teams in action at the weekend. The U15 boys got a walkover against Bridge Utd The Youths also received walkover in the Henderson Shield against Bridge Utd. The U12 boys are away to East end on Saturday next with kick off at 11am at Bennettsbridge.
The U14 boys are home to Deen Celtic with kick off at 2pm. The Junior played their first match in Division 2 on Sunday morning last against neighbours Brookville of Ballyragget. The game ended in a 4-4 draw. The home side had bee 4-1 but Ballyragget struck back with two goals in quick succession in the second half to make it 4-3 and they were then awarded a penalty which left the game 4-4.

.Training for 5-9 year old recommenced recently and continues each Saturday 12 - 1 with Gary Barnaville in charge. All young boys in that age group are most welcome. The club has entered an U13 girls team for this season and any girls in that age group wishing to sign can contact any member of the Club. DANCE CLASSES - Social dance classes will resume in St.Kierans Hall Johnstown on Wednesday evening the 3rd October at 8pm. Death - The death occurred last week of Brigid Drennan, Glashare,Galmoy. The deceased who was in her eighties was well known in the area and was mother of Ann Farrell,Kilkenny Street, Freshford. Burial took place in Galmoy Cemetery on Thursday last following Requiem Mass at 2pm. She is also mourned by her Daughter Hannah, son Tommy, son in law, daughter in law and grandchildren o whom deepest sympathy is extended.

At the heart of Relay is the opportunity to CELEBRATE Cancer Survivors and to REMEMBER those who have left us. We are currently asking people who may have been touched in any way by cancer to come and join in the CELEBRATION . Our Relay For Life will be held on Saturday and Sunday the 20th and 21st of July , 2013 at Scanlon Park , Kilkenny. We are recruiting teams of volunteers who will walk around the track in relay , for 24 hours , because cancer never sleeps!!. The people of Freshford and surrounding areas were saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Mary Bergin late of Tenniscarthy Freshford last week. The deceased who was 91 years old was predeceased by her husband Jim some years previously. They were widely known in the farming circles and Mary was a prominent member of Freshford ICA for many years. Her remains were removed from her home to Clontubrid Church on Friday evening last and Burial took place on Saturday in Tigfeaghna cemetery following Requiem Mss. She is mourned by her five daughters, Julie, Mary, Renee, Carmel and Patricia, sons in law, grandchildren and great-grandchild to whom sincere sympathy is extended.
ACTIVE RETIREMENT GROUP - Freshford Active Retirement Group meet in the local Community Hall each Tuesday at 3pm. New members are always most welcome.
