Kilkenny College students Go West

Keelan Quinn

As part of Transition Year, a number of students from Kilkenny College were in Achill last weekend.

Bunk beds and hostel accommodation were the order of the day.

There were a huge range of activities to take part in during this adventure weekend. Surfing, windsurfing, archery, rock-climbing, and hillwalking to name but a few.

A first for all students of Kilkenny College was ‘Coast steering’, which is effectively jumping off a cliff and making your away along the coast to an exit point. With the big west-coast surf, this activity was hugely popular, if very tiring.

Thankfully, with the time of year, the water was not too cold, and with wetsuits, students were able to stay in the ocean for long periods at a time.

Special thanks to Mr Willis, the TY co-ordinator, and the team of teachers who organised and went on the weekend.
