SPLIT THE POT RESULTS - Michelle Barrett c/o Pecker was the winner of €106 with Liam O Brien c/o The Barrow Breeze won €20 as did Kathleen Fortune, Barrowmount Drive. Last week new shrubs were planted at the entrance to the village on the Gowran and Ballyellen road. The bedding plant plugs arrived and have been potted and will be planted out at the end of May just before the Tidy Town competition takes place.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEARN TO FISH - Goresbridge Anglers Association held their AGM last week and it was decided that if there was young people interested in learning how to fish that they would give them their time over the next few weeks to teach them. This would be for children 10 years and up. It would be fly fishing and the club will supply fishing rods, this is only for those with a keen interest who just never had the opportunity before. Also if there are teenagers or young adults who already know how to fish and would like to try sea fishing the club will arrange a day trip. ARTIST IN RESIDENCY PROGRAMME - The George Bernard Shaw Theatre and Carlow Local Authorities Arts Service would like to put out an open call to invite expressions of interest for their Artist in Residency Programme. The programme is divided into two strands, the Community Strand and the Professional Artist Strand, and will run concurrently from November 2013 to November 2014. Dancers, writers, directors and theatre makers from all backgrounds and levels of experience are welcome to apply. For further information please contact

TRACTOR NUTS CELEBRATES 10 YEARS - Borris Tractor Nuts Road Run takes place on Sunday May 12 but there are lots to look forward to. On Saturday the Fordson Gathering will take place, there will be a farmers market, the Mad Hatters tea party and Clown Show should keep the children entertained while Chef, Edward Hayden and the ICA ladies will put the bachelors through a boot camp. On Saturday evening there will be a Ho Down Barn Dance in Borris House at 8pm, all cowboys and cowgirls welcome, food and live music to entertain and the Bachelor of Borris will be crowned. It is the tenth anniversary and the funds raised go towards the Irish Kidney Association and Cancer Care. The tractor run takes place on Sunday and if you would like to participate please contact Brian at 086 2595281. The day finishes off with a barbecue in The Step House with live music. AGEING WITH CONFIDENCE - Kilkenny Age Friendly County programme is available to provide “Ageing with Confidence” in your area. The 8 weeks workshop is a personal development programme designed to help people over 55 explore their ageing process. The programme is run by two trained facilitators and looks at all aspects of ageing including physical, emotional and intellectual. The workshop is free of charge and is usually run at local community/parish centres. Enquires welcome from community centres/individuals and groups. The promoter’s prize was won by John McDonald. SOCCER RESULTS - Bridge United A team travelled to Durrow to take on the Lions. At the end of an entertaining game Bridge emerged 2-0 winners courtesy of goals from Conor English and James Barcoe.

The under 15’s received the points from Clover United while the under 13’s played Highview in Goresbridge and won 5-1. This followed a 4-0 midweek victory over Stoneyford away.

GOOD WINS FOR BARROW RANGERS - The Junior Hurlers of Barrow Rangers had two good away wins last weekend. On Saturday evening they beat Graignamanagh 1-10 to 11 pts in the All County Junior Hurling League in Graignamanagh. On Sunday morning the Junior B team were in Larchfield where they defeated the home side, James Stephens 4-16 to 3-13.

TICKETS ON SALE, 5 CARS TO BE WON - The Kilkenny County Board Hurler’s Co-Op Draw (Piltown Draw) tickets are now available for sale. There are five draws starting on Tuesday June 11. There are 30 prizes to be won each month with the top prize being a car followed by cash prizes and holidays. Barrow Rangers get to keep half the money from their ticket sales so it is a really important fundraiser for the club. Tickets are €50 each and can be purchased from any committee member or player, Peter Breen has them available in the Goresbridge area.
