THE annual Dawn Choral that has on five occasions been a feature of Kilkenny’s start-of-the-summer calendar – since 5/5/5 at 5.55am – is back again.
Once more taking place at 5.55am on May 5, it will feature the Kilkenny College Choir, the Choral Choir of the Hole in the Wall, and soprano Carmel Conway. The choirs will sing pieces similar to the madrigals sung every May 1 for the past 400 years from the top of Magdalen College Tower, Oxford by students of Magdalen School, Oxford.
The Kilkenny Dawn Choral is unique the world over, and while the 20,000 to 30,000 who gather beneath Magdalen Tower, Oxford is not quite replicated in the ‘fayre citie’, those who have taken the opportunity to celebrate the start of summer at the Dawn Chorals down the years speak highly of how wonderful it has been.
The Kilkenny Design Centre will be open for breakfast at 6.30am. Participants are asked to meet at the Hole in the Wall, 17 High Street, Kilkenny.
