Congratulations- and best wishes go out to two well known people in the village on the occasion of their marriage recently. Pat Morrissey Woodview, Freshford and Anna Cuthbert of Tullaroan and Scotland tied the knot at Our Lady & Saint Cuthberts Church, Berwick Upon Tweed on 2nd June. The Ceremony was performed by Fr. J. Brendan Kelly. The bride was attended by her best friend Julie Matthews and Best man was Oliver Rafter friend of the groom. Flower girl was Freya Deans and Page Boy was Warren Cuthbert (nephew of bride.) They had a special function on Friday night last in Langtons on their return from Scotland and celebrated with their families and friends. Many travelled from Scotland to attend the celebration at the weekend. Both are well known in the village. Pat is local plumber and was member of Freshford town Soccer teams over the years and St. Lachtains Hurling Club while Anna is hairdresser in the local Saloon in the village. The couple will reside in Freshford and are wished all the best in their new married life together.
FRESHFORD COMMUNITY MARKET - The people of the area are reminded that will be a Community Market in Freshford starting on Friday the 6th July from 10am to 12 pm. Local producers are welcome to come along and sell their wares on the beautiful village green, weather permitting, or in the local Community Hall, if not. There will be various home produced goods on sale including Home baking, jams, eggs, bread also arts and crafts etc will also be available. All are welcome. IRISH FANS - A number of local soccer enthusiasts from Freshford and surrounds travelled to Poland recently to follow Ireland in the tournament. Despite Ireland having a bad run in the competition the fans had a good time and enjoyed the trip in the meantime.
FRESHFORD TOWN NEWS - The victorious Freshford Town U11 team collected their League Cup in the Springhill Hotel at the KDL awards night recently, having won the league after a superb unbeaten season. Captain Cathal O’Leary collected the Cup from Mayor Fitzgerald on behalf of the team and Cian Franey collected the U11 KDL Div.2 Player of the Year award. Adam Garret collected medals on behalf of the U14’s team who finished a close second in their league after a great campaign and Michael Kenny collected the U17 Cup and medals on behalf of the U17’s who had a great fantastic Cup win.
raffle- Freshford Town are holding a raffle to celebrate Irelands participation in the Euro 2012 finals and trying to raise much needed funds for the club. They have a beautifully framed autographed Ireland jersey and for just €2 euro a line or 3 lines for €5 you could win this fantastic prize. The jersey has many of the Irish squad autographs including captain Robbie Keane and others like Keith Andrews and Shay Given plus many more. You can purchase a line in most of the local shops and pubs or by contacting a member of the club.
soccer-Parents please note that soccer training sessions for 5-9 year old which are held each Saturday at 12 noon finish this Saturday for the summer break.
Lotto - There was no Jackpot winner in last weeks KDL Lotto and the Jackpot next weeks stands at €6,300. There were two winners in the match three both local, Yvonne Barnaville,The Square and Martin Walsh, Bohergloss.

CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION - To mark the occasion of Ireland hosting g the International Eucharistic Congress Freshford parish held a special Corpus Christi procession on Wednesday evening last. While the Congress was in progress in Dublin there was a Mass in Freshford at 7.30pm and this was be followed by the traditional Corpus Christi procession which went down round The Square. Pride of place went to this year’s First Holy Communion class and Confirmation class. People were asked to make a special effort to attend on the evening and there was a good crowd in attendance on the evening which was lovely to see for the special event.
GAA NEWS - St.Lachtains u-14 hurling team are due to play St.Fiacres in Pairc Lachtain on Friday evening net at 7.30p.m (see fixtures for confirmation). On Monday next they play James Stephens B at Larchfield at 7pm.
Best of luck- to Brian Kennedy who is part of the Kilkenny U21 Panel who will play Wexford in Nowlan Park on Wednesday evening. St.Lachtains Minor Hurlers play St.Martins in the Conahy tournament at Pairc Lachtain this week..
The Junior A Hurlers beat local rivals Conahy Shamrocks in the North Junior A Championship/League game played on Saturday evening at Pairc Lachtain on a scoreline of 3-12 to 2-12.
The Junior B hurlers were beaten by Danesfort in the first round of their league/championship on Sunday evening in a highly competitive game played at Danesfort on a 0-22 to 0-15 scoreline.
Meanwhile the Intermediate hurlers played St.Martins in the Byrne Cup at Coon last week. A somewhat understrength team lost out to the Muckalee side. Their next games is against Dicksboro on Sunday afternoon next at Pairc Lachtain at 2pm.They play O’Loughlins this week in Pairc Lachtains (see results).
