Glenmore: Pairc Na Ratha AGM

GAA- The Glenmore GAA Hurling and Football club are holding their Annual General Meeting on Friday 25th January in the club dressing rooms in Pairc Na Ratha at 8.15pm and all are welcome to attend.

SPECIAL MASS - A special Mass to mark the bi-centenary of the church of St. James, Glenmore was held on New Year’s day at 12noon. Bishop Seamus Freeman and Fr .O’ Connor concelebrated and there was many parishioners and visitors in attendance. Thanks is given to all who contributed and assisted in the preparations for this mass.

St. Joseph’s AC- The local athletic club, St. Joseph’s have adult and juvenile training each Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7pm in the Rosbercon Sports grounds and the Fit4Life group meet each Monday and Wednesday evening at 7pm at the Pink Rock in Ballyverneen and new members are welcome to join.

NATIONAL WALKS- As part of the Operation Transformation National Walks taking place this weekend right across the country there is a walk taking place in Woodstock Gardens, Inistioge this Saturday at 2pm where there will be a walk leader to guide those taking part and all are welcome to come along and join in.

CHIROPODIST - A Chiropodist will be in Glenmore hall on Tuesday next( January 22) at 1pm. If you wish to visit with the chiropodist please call 087 9780258 for more details.

LOURDES PILGRIMAGE - Bookings are currently being taken for persons wishing to be part of this year’s Ossory Pilgrimage to Lourdes. To book your place and for more details please contact the parish office at 051 880414 10.30am to 2.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdys and Fridays. The cost this year is €735 per person sharing and includes the bus fare.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION - As part of the preparations for this year’s Holy Communion set to take place on Sunday 12th May the next ‘Do this in memory’ mass for those receiving their First Holy Communion will take place on Sunday 27th January at 11am mass. First Confession will take place on Thursday 21st February at 7.30pm in the church of St. James, Glenmore.

CAMOGIE REGISTRATION - The Glenmore camogie club are holding their club registration night tonight( Wednesday) from 6.30 to 8.30pm in the Glenmore GAA clubrooms in Pairc Na Ratha. The year’s membership is €25 per child, €60 per family and €50 for juvenile players.

GOLDEN WEDDING - On the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary many congratulations are extended to Paul and Mary Fitzgerald of Flemingstown, Glenmore at this time. Wishing you both many years of contuined good health and happiness.

The society offers a great opportunity to play some of the many golf courses of the region and is always a great day out so if you’re interested please contact any of the above named persons or a member of the society for more details.

MINOR FOOTBALL - The Glenmore minor football team of 2012, Rory Doherty ( Captain), Alan Murphy, Steven Cody, Brian O’ Donoghue, Mark O’ Connor, Shane Murphy, Philip Roche, Paddy Hennessy, Adrian Doherty, Shane Doherty, Liam Hennessy, Colm Doherty, Mark Aylward, Niall Dunne, Dean Croke, Michael Holden, John Caulfield, Christopher O’ Connor, Eoin Aylward, William Treacy, Ciaran O’ Connor and Ger Kehoe exited the 2012 minor Roinn A football championship at the semi final stage last Sunday. In a match played in Pairc Na ratha, Glenmore against James Stephens the lads from the glen had the upper hand in the first half with a half time tally of Glenmore 1-2 to James Stephens’s 0-1, However it was a game of two halves which saw the tides of fortune favour the brave and the lads from the village in Kilkenny city went on to add a tally of 4-1 in the second half and Glenmore could only manage to secure a further 0-1. The final score was Glenmore 1-3 to James Stephens 4-2. In the recently held quarter final against Erin’s Own of Castlecomer Glenmore had a very strong win with a tally of 3-7 to Erin’s Own 1-2 in a match played in Glenmore. Thanks to the team trainers and mentors Seammie Dollard, John Phelan and Michael Doherty.
