CARERS OF PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA / ALZHEIMERS - Meeting today, Wednesday, March 27 from 4 - 5.30pm. A facilitated support group providing a safe space for information and support meet in the Alzheimer Day Care Cantre, 1 Fr Walsh CLose, Cootes Lane, Kilkenny (behind the Village Inn). EASTER WEEK - Wednesday (today, March 27) mass in Lisdowney at 9.30am. Mass of Chrism in St Mary’s Cathedral at 7.30pm with blessing of oils. All welcome.

Holy Thursday - visitation of the sick and housebound in the morning, please let the Parish Priest know if there is anyone who requires a visit. Mass of the Lord’s Supper in Clontubrid at 7pm.

Good Friday - The Passion in Lisdowney at 3pm, in Gathbawn at 7.30pm and a TAIZE Prayer around the Cross at 9pm in Clontubrid Church.

Holy Saturday - Easter Night Mass in Lisdowney at 9pm. Easter Sunday mass in Clontubrid at 9.30am and Gathbawn at 11am. Easter Monday mass at 10am in Lisdowney.

GATHABAWN CAKE SALE - Creenkill National School Parents’ Council will hold their annual Easter Cake Sale after 11am mass in Gathabawn on Easter Sunday. Cakes, breads, buns, jams and other goodies will be on sale.

EASTER SUNDAY WALK - Take a stroll on the MacGiollaphadraig Way (Durrow to Gathabawn) on Easter Sunday starting from the Church Car Park, Durrow, with registration starting at 11.30 (registration fee €5). Walk leaves at 12 noon sharp and continues to Ballykealy for 1pm and Cullahill Mountain for 2.30pm where walkers can join at the trail head. Refreshments will be available afterwards in Mackeys’ Bar. GOLF CLASSIC - Lisdowney GAA club are holding their annual fund raising golf classic in Rathdowney Golf Club on Easter Monday April 1. Teams of four cost €120. Anyone interested in playing or sponsoring a tee box please ring John at 056 8833810.

CREENKILL NS FUNDRAISER - Creenkill National School Gathabawn are having a 70’s/80’s disco in Mackey’s, Gathabawn, on Saturday, April 6. DJ on the night is the one and only Treacy Edwards. Admission €5. Doors open at 9.30pm. All welcome.

DRUMMING WORKSHOP - The Green Room, Rathbeagh Farmhouse, Ballyragget is hosting a Recreational and African Drumming Workshop, facilitated by Eddie O’Neill (, on Easter Monday, April 1 from 2pm to 4.30pm. The cost is €20 and all drums are provided. Phone Phil on 087 6228141 or Peter on 085 7495016.

ALZHEIMER CAFE - On Wednesday, April 3 from 11am to 1pm there will be a talk from dementia specific Health care professionals at an opportunity for those living with dementia to meet with others in a similar situation in Harry’s Bar, Langton’s.

IRISH CANCER SOCIETY - A coffee morning will be held from 8am until late evening on Friday, April 5 in Jacinta Fitzpatrick’s Cullahill. All proceeds in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.

COMMUNITY GAMES ART - Congratulations to Conor O’Gorman and Laura O’Gorman, both of whom won through in the County Art Competition and are now elligble to go forward and represent Kilkenny at the National finals in Athlone.

CHRISTENING - Welcome into the Parish Fath last weekend was Fionn Daniel Condon, Rathbeag.

WEDDING CONGRATULATIONS - to Breda Bowden, Balleen and Patrick Noonan from Leixlip who got married in Gathbawn last Friday.

PILATES - Spring term for men and women begin again on the week beginning April 8. Evening, morning, beginner and Intermediate classes are available. All classes are in Clontubrid. Please phone 086 6611163 to book on the courses.

PRE and POST NATAL PILATES - Enrolment for Pre and Post Natal pilates in Clontubrid is currently ongoing, In the post natal classes you are welcome to bring your baby to the class. Please phone 086 6611163 to enrol.

TEENAGE CORE TRAINING - Will begin again in the parish on Tuesday, April 9. This course issuitable for 10 year olds to 18 year olds, male and female, and is excellent for injury prevention, good posture and improving your sport. Many children currently do ‘Core Exercises’, however it is essential that they are taught correctly how to do them so that they will not do themselves harm and will benefit more from exercises they do in clubs and schools. SOCCER WINNERS - Well done to all the children from Lisdowney parish who took part in the Colin McGree Soccer Tournament last Sunday. Many turned out and the children gave excellent performances despite the perishing cold. Thanks to all those in Freshford Soccer club for organising the tournament. It was an added surprise for the children to have John Delaney from FAI there to present medals along with members of the McGree family. Every child went away a winner when John Delaney promised each child who took part in the tournament a trip to a match of their choice in the Aviva Stadium. The winning team included four Lisdowney chaps, Niall Brennan, Willie Cahill, Alan Dunphy and Jack O’Sullivan.

UNDERAGE HURLING - Hurling has resumed for boys and girls from Under 6 up to Under 12 in Lisdowney GAA Club and will continue every Saturday morning from 10am to 11am. All are welcome. Children must wear helmets and shin guards.

OCCUPATIONAL FIRST AID COURSE - A FETAC 3 day Occupational First Aid Course will be held in Clontubrid, Freshford in May. It includes CPR and all aspects of First Aid. Spaces are very limited. The cost of the entire course €190.00. Booking and further details on 086 1985251.

JUVENILE BADMINTON - Last Friday was the final night of Juvenile Badminton in Lisdowney for this season. Well done to all children who took part over the year. Every child improved their standard of play over the season and this was very evident when everyone took part in the end of year club tournament. Huge congratulations to you all. Check out the new Facebook page, Lisdowney Badminton Club, for any updates. Thank you to Karen Cahill and John Holohan who helped with coaching all year. A big thenkyou to Eimear Banville who has brought badminton to our parish. She hopes to see everyone back next year.

ADULT BADMINTON - Monday night badminton still continues in hall at 8pm.

HURLING CAMP - St Lachtain’s hurling club will hold their Easter hurling camp for boys and girls aged 7 to 13 years. The camp will be held on Tuesday, April 2 to Friday, April 5. Camp will start each morning from 10am to 2pm in Pairc Lachtain Freshford. The cost of the camp is €30 per child for the first two children and €20 for the third child onwards. LOVE CAKES - Please bake a Love Cake for the Home Care Team. This involves baking a cake, bringing it into Oldtown Hill Shop on high Street where it will be judged. You can then take your cake and eat it. €5.00 should be paid towards the Home Care Team. The prize for the winning cake will be to have your house cleaned, top to bottom by McCreery Contract Cleaners and your own Personal Butler for the day.

FLORA WOMEN’S MINI MARATHON - Many ladies from the parish have signed up for the mini marathon in aid of the local schools, so get walking ladies, and everyone’s support would be welcome.

LISDOWNEY GAA & CAMOGIE CLUB LOTTO - The numbers drawn in the Lisdowney GAA and Camogie Club Lotto on Monday, March 4 were 9, 11, 13, and 26. There was no winner. Match 3 winner - Billy McEvoy.
