WEDDING BELLS - Congrats to Karen Fitzpatrick, Tinniscarty, and Eddie Hughes, Woodsgift, who were married in Gathabawn Church last Friday. The happy couple celebrated their marriage with family and friends at a reception in a marquee at the Hughes family home in Woodsgift.
Congrats also to John Coady and Alison Tynan, Seskin Little, who were married recently in Malta. Karen and Eddie, and John and Alison are wished every happiness for the future.
LISDOWNEY QUIZ TEAM - Well done to the Lisdowney Under 14 Community Games Quiz Team who came fourth at the National Community Games Finals in Athlone last Saturday. The team came just four points behind the winners on 131 points. The winning team scored 135 points and there was a tie for second place on 132 points. This was a fantastic achievement for Lisdowney and Kilkenny. The team consisted of Eimear Walsh, Chloe Mullins, Claire O’Carroll and Ellen O’Carroll.
COMMUNITY GAMES ATHLETICS - Best wishes to the Lisdowney athletes who will take part in the County Kilkenny Community Games Athletics Finals this Saturday afternoon in Scanlon Park, Kilkenny. Gates open at 3.30 pm with events starting at 4 pm. All are welcome to attend.
UNDER 14 CAMOGIE - The Under 14 Camogie team have been back training for a number of weeks now with two matches already played. Lisdowney came out winners on both occasions with wins against Paulstown and Naomh Brid, Ballyragget. They have hosted both of these matches at home with good wins on both occasions. They played Naomh Brid last Wednesday with a good start with the wind in the first half and with good performances from all players, mostly mid field and forwards. Lisdowney were leading well at half time. The second half followed in a similar pattern with further scores from Lisdowney, notching up 4-3 to Naomh Brid’s 1-2. All of the players contributed including the goalie and backs, even though it was a quiet game for them. There were good performances from mid fields and forwards who worked well together. The next outing will be against Cloneen next Wednesday, 5th June 2013, at 7 pm in Lisdowney. Come along and give the girls your support. AFTERNOON CLUB - The Afternoon Club trip to Dublin Zoo will take place tomorrow (Thursday, 30th May 2013). The bus will leave Ballyragget at 9.15 am, Lisdowney at 9.30 am and Gathabawn at 10 am. The group will stop for refreshments in the Poitin Stil on the way and for an evening meal on the way home. €40 all included. PARISH SEVENS - The annual Lisdowney Parish Sevens hurling blitz took place last Saturday, 25th May 2013. Eight teams of seven players led by team captains Jack McGree, James Phelan, Gary O’Sullivan, Rory Kenny, David O’Carroll, Holly Moore, Conor Tallis and Cathal Jordan played over four hours of top class hurling on what was one of the best days of the summer so far. David O’Carroll’s team won the Peter Tallis memorial cup final beating Gary O’Sullivan’s team on a score line of 9-02 to 5-01. Anyone who was at the blitz would agree the GAA club has a bright future with 56 top class hurlers on display during the day. JUNIOR HURLING - In the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Junior Hurling League, Lisdowney took on Cloneen in the third round last Sunday week in Cloneen GAA grounds. Lisdowney lead 2-10 to 1-06 at half time and built on this to win 3-25 to 2-09 at the final whistle. The team lined out as 1:Niall Grogan, 2:Niall O’Hara, 3:Martin Phelan, 4:Niall Mackey, 5:Padraig Kenny, 6:Sean Phelan, 7:Peter Bergin, 8:Joe Bergin, 9 Kevin Sweeney, 10:Eoin Delahunty, 11:Aaron Fogarty, 12:Ciaran Mackey, 13:Michael Kenny, 14:Rory Hickey, 15:Paddy Bowden. Eddie Hickey, Laurence O’Carroll, Niall Kenny, Anthony O’Hara and Jimmy Delaney all came on as second half subs. Lisdowney are currently top of the table after winning their first three games and are due to play the second place team Galmoy on the 12th July in the next round.
In the JJ Kavanagh & Sons All County Junior Hurling League on Tuesday, 21st May 2013, the Junior team continued their unbeaten run in all competitions with a 1-20 to 0-17 win over Slieverue. Lisdowney led from the start of the game to the finish and built on a half time lead of 1-09 to 0.-9. The team line up was 1:Eoin Walsh, 2:Anthony O’Hara, 3:Martin Phelan, 4:Niall Mackey, 5:Niall Kenny, 6:Sean Phelan, 7:Peter Bergin, 8:Joe Bergin, 9 Padraig Kenny, 10:Eoin Delahunty, 11:Aaron Fogarty, 12:Laurence O’Carroll, 13:Paddy Bowden, 14:Eddie Hickey, 15:Ciaran Mackey. Subs used in the second half were Niall O’Hara, Conor O’Carroll, Eddie Kenny and Jimmy Delaney.
UNDER 14 In the Duggan Steel U14 Roinn B Hurling League on Monday 20th May 2013, Mooncoin travelled up to Lisdowney for this third round league game. Lisdowney led for most of the match in what was a very competitive game but ran out of steam coming near the end and were very unlucky to lose 3-08 to 8-09. The team lined out as 1:Rory Kenny, 2:Conor Tallis, 3:Laurence Campion, 4:Eoin Delaney, 5:Jack McGree, 6:James Phelan, 7:Mark Fitzpatrick, 8:David O’Carroll, 9:Ben Tallis, 10:Gary O’Sullivan, 11:Niall Brennan, 12:Marty McEvoy, 13:Lee McCann 14:Cathal Jordan, 15:Luke Campion. In the Duggan Steel U14 Roinn B Hurling League on Thursday 23rd May 2013, Lisdowney took the short trip to Freshford for their fourth round league game against St. Lachtain’s. Lisdowney lost the match 5-07 to 1-06. The team lined out as 1:Aidan Tallis, 2:Mark Fitzpatrick, 3:Laurence Campion, 4:Eoin Delaney, 5:Jack McGree, 6:James Phelan, 7:Garry O’Sullivan, 8:Niall Brennan, 9:Ben Tallis, 10:Luke Campion, 11:David O’Carroll, 12:Marty McEvoy, 13:Shane Grace, 14:Lee McCann, 15:Rory Kenny. Subs 16: Eoin Kenny, 17: Eddie Cahill, 18:Stevie Dunne.
CAMOGIE CLUB LOTTO - The numbers drawn in the Lisdowney GAA and Camogie Club Lotto on Monday, 20th May 2013, were 3, 4, 11 and 19. There was no winner. Match three winners were Laura Dunne, Niamh McEvoy, Kay Kelly, Maureen Delaney, Mary N Coady, Shem Doheny and Tommy Dowling. Next week’s jackpot is €5,200. The draw will be held on Tuesday, 4th June 2013, in Mackey’s Bar, Gathabawn.
