AWARDS NIGHT - Bridge United will hold their junior awards night in Maher’s Lounge on Saturday July 28. There will be a barbecue at 8.30 and Na Fianna will provide the music from 10.30. It’s an all ticket affair and they can be bought for €10 from John Quinn (Maher’s Pub), Jim O’ Connell, John McDonald, Eamon Barcoe and Chris Barcoe. Sounds like a great night out and it’s always great to celebrate success.
LOTTO WON - Bridge United’s lotto was won last week by Rian Barcoe of Upper Grange, son of Stephen and Caroline. The promoter’s prize went to John and Chris Barcoe. Congratulations to Rian, the good news for the rest of us is that their new lotto is worth €6,175 so definitely worth winning. BARGAINS TO BE HAD - Goresbridge Pharmacy has 20 per cent off everything at the moment and there are real bargains to be had, sale finishes at the end of the month but you could make quite a saving on shampoos, perfumes, aftershaves, gift sets etc. Some people are great at getting organised for, dare I mention, Christmas and this could be a great opportunity to get started.
SPLIT THE PIT - The Split the Pot draw was won by Emma Barcoe, Ballyellen, €20 went to Liam Langrell for the second week in a row and Paddy Quinn c/o John Quinn won the other €20. CONCERT IN IONAD DARA - The annual concert run by the committee of Ionad Dara will take place on Friday August 31, Lumíere, Pauline Scanlon and Éilis Kennedy from Dingle will provide the entertainment and are considered to be two of the finest voices in Ireland. They will be supported by the widely acclaimed Oirachtas Sean-no’s dance champions, Colm, Padraig and Gearóid Devane from Carna, Connemara. HENNESSY’S GARDEN CENTRE - Hennessy’s Garden Centre has a terrific sale on at the moment and it is good to support local business so if it is indoor or outdoor plants, shrubs you need, or new pots it’s worth taking a trip up there.

LIBRARY - The library is open Mon – Fri at the Goresbridge Rural Development office, there is a huge selection of books for adults and children. It’s just a matter of popping in and choosing a book or books and swopping them with some of your own, there is no fee. There are so many books that it is necessary to put in more shelving which GRD hope will be in place in about a month or lessSERVERS OUTING - The Servers Outing will take place on Thursday August 16 to Tramore, if you are a server and would like to go you need to leave your name into the sacristy or at the Parish Office at 059 9775180 before July 25th.
PRESENTATION OF CHEQUES - Borris and Tractor Nuts held their cheque presentation in Bob’s Bar, Borris on Saturday July 7. Two cheques of €4,136 were presented to the Irish Cancer Society and the Irish Kidney Association. The committee wish to thank all who made the 2012 Tractor run such a good success, the tractor drivers who travelled from near and far and the generous sponsorship they brought in, the stewards for the smooth running of the day, those who donated spot prizes, donations of tea and food on the day which was really appreciated. Thank you to the staff at the Step house Hotel for all their help and the delicious barbecue, the residents of Borris for their patience with traffic restrictions, roll on 2013.
