New walking Group for Bagenalstown

BEAM BENEFIT NIGHT - The BEAM Bagenalstown 23rd annual Gala Benefit Night will take place at Kilkenny Greyhound Track on Sunday, July 22. First race at 7.30pm. Down through the years BEAM has received wonderful support for their Benefit Night which is their principal fundraising event. The Race Night has been running since l990. It has proved to be an extremely popular night out and one of the best nights at the Kilkenny Dog Track, providing good fun for all the family, making it a real social event. Excellent dog racing includes the Red Mills Open, Dobbs Oil Novice, Peter Meaney Memorial Race and McDonnell Clan Race, just to mention a few. You are invited to go along and have a great night out while supporting a very worthy fundraising event.

CROAGH PATRICK - Bagenalstown Parish Pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick will take place on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd September. Last few places remaining. Total cost is €100 which includes bus and one night bed and breakfast and evening meal in McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris which is 10 mins from Knock.

MINO WORLD CUP - Muine Bheag Joint Policing Committee, Muine Bheag Town Council and An Garda Siochana - Muine Bheag Mini World Cup 2012, to be held at Fr. Cummins Park, Muine Bheag, commencing on Monday, July 23 with the Finals on Monday, August 6. Entry free. Age groups: 8 yrs to 11 yrs (boys and girls) and 12 yrs to 15 yrs (boys and girls). Entries and enquiries to 087 7155236 by July 16 please. No names or entries will be accepted after July 16 and no exceptions will be made.

NEW WALKING GROUP - You are invited to join the Family Resource Centre walking group where you can get fit at a relaxed pace. All ages welcome. The group meets every Wednesday at Aldi car park at 10.30am.

WEIGHT WATCHERS - Classes on Wednesday at 10am in Muine Bheag Community Centre, Church Road and Thursday 6pm. Class for men only at 7.30pm in the McGrath Hall, Railway Road.

FUN RUN/WALK - A 10k Fun Run/Walk organised by Bagenalstown Family Resource Centre will take place on August 12, at 12 noon.

BINGO - Bagenalstown Parish Bingo takes place every Wednesday at 8pm in the McGrath Hall, Railway Road.

BAGENALSTOWN SWIMMING POOL - Water Safety begins on Monday, August 13, at 11am in Bagenalstown Swimming Pool. For information contact Mary on 085 1521232. There is no increase in membership fee. Daily opening hours are from 11am to 12.30pm: 2.30pm to 5.30pm and 7pm to 9pm.

PARISH YEARBOOK 2012 - All groups, clubs, schools and organisations within the parish are invited to submit articles for inclusion in the Yearbook. Personal contributions are most welcome. Articles should be no more than 600 words in length. Photographs should be originals or sent by Jpeg.

CONGRATULATIONS - to Dean Egan who now has his own banter show in KCLR. Dean is one of the Ventures with 2nd Carlow/Bagenalstown Scouts and recently won the title of Bagenalstown Young Person of the Year.

BALLINKILLEN HURLING CLUB - The local club draw took place on June 28 in Ballinkillen/Lorum Community Centre for all those who bought €100 tickets. There were ten x €50 prizes. Winners were Paddy Salt Murphy Snr. Fenagh; Frank Murphy Jnr, Ballyphenan; Mary Ward and Neddy Mullins, Ballinakill; Teresa Freeman, Ballymartin; Sandra and Jim Sheehan, c/o Paddy Salt Murphy; Derek and Brenda McDermott, Clowater; Ann, Emma and PJ Dowling, Ballyloughan; Paddy Salt Murphy Snr. MUINE BHEAG GAA - All age groups are now training. Hurling training: Every Tuesday evening at McGrath Park from 5pm to 6pm for under 6 and under 8: Thursdays between 5pm and 6pm for under 10s. Football training: Every Wednesday for under 6, under 8 and under 10. Everybody who is interested should turn up at the venue and make themselves known to the club coaches in attendance. New players very welcome. Go Games information is distributed by coaches at training sessions. Congratulations to the Bagenalstown under 10 Community Games football team who won the County Final.

CONCERT - Niall Toner and his band will play a once off concert in Killoughternane Hall on Friday, August 24. Tickets are on sale at 087 2612194 at €20 and are expected to sell out quickly. Niall Toner is widely regarded as one of Ireland’s leading experts on bluegrass and American country music.
