SOCCER - Freshford Town Junior side suffered a disappointing defeat away to River Rangers on Sunday last. After a slow start they found themselves 1-0 down following a corner which was well headed in by a Rangers attacker. This seemed to wake up the local lads who were soon back level following a penalty well won by Shane Maher and put away by James Kenny. Within ten minutes they had the lead when Kenny produced a fin finish form outside the box which gave the Rangers keeper no chance to leave it 2-1.

The second half produced more of the same attacking play but the Freshford lads could not find the killer goal and with just 15 minutes left they conceded a very soft goal to level the game. Worse was to come when some more indecision in the Freshford defence and failure to clear the ball allowed Rangers to take the lead and a mix up between the Keeper and centre back saw them gift Rangers a fourth goal. It was a bad day for the Junior side who seemed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and will need to produce some fine form if they are to get promotion.

Schoolboys - The U12 boys played Evergreen A in Woodview on Saturday last. They poorly and found themselves 2-0 down before they could get themselves into the game.  Just on the stroke of half time Cathal O’leary beat three players inside the box before being brought down for a penalty.  He stepped up and slotted it to the corner of the net to give Freshford a lifeline at 2-1 at the break.  Freshford were by far the better team and dominated the second half.  Cathal O’leary in midfield and Jack Crosby & Mikey Neary in defence were outstanding for the home side.  Cian Franey scored a super second goal for Freshford when he beat the keeper from the edge of the box from a great pass from Cathal O’leary.  Then Cathal again sent Luke Campion free who outpaced the defenders to score a good goal and Freshford took the lead to make it 3-2.  However, Evergreen equalised late on and Freshford were unlucky not to get the winner when Aidan Tallis hit the cross bar after a corner.  It was a super comeback performance by the young Freshford boys, who came from 2-0 down and were very unlucky in the end not to gain the victory but a draw was a fair result.  A great all round performance by Freshford with special mention for Cian Franey and Mikey Neary and man of the match performances from Cathal O’Leary and captain on the day Jack Crosby.   Meanwhile the U-14’s were at home to Paulstown and continued on their winning streak with a fine win of 2 - 0. Scores came from N.Brennan and
