GOLFING SOCIETY - The Society has erected the Christmas Tree at adjacent to Duiske Abbey as they have done for years. Once again they are indebted to Dan Galavan of Carrigleade Golf Club for donating the tree as he has always done, a gesture that is greatly appreciated. Martin Kelly of the Globe has kindly supplied the electricity to power the bulbs. The illuminated tree adds greatly to the festive season.
DRAMA RETURNS TO THE ABBEY HALL - Everyone will be delighted to learn that following years of trials,tribulations,negotiations,fund raising repairing and renovation the Abbey Hall is now ready function as a Parish Hall once again. Great credit is due to the volunteers who have worked so hard over a long period of time to realise the dream and no doubt the community will avail once more of the services on offer.The first major event at the newly renovated hall will take place this week with the staging of Roddy Doyles hilarious comedy BROWNBREAD. All concerned have spent weeks rehearsing and on Wednesday night they will take the stage confident that their efforts will be rewarded with capacity crowd and numerous curtain calls’.The production will rub from Wednesday to Saturday and curtain up is at 8pm.The cast of the highly commended p comedyis James Kilbride, Thomas Drennan, Adrian Kavanagh, David Behan, Jim Kielthy, Edel Bolger, Jackie Douglas, Eoin McNamara with Paul Hickeu appearing as the Bishop. Come early and avoid dissapointment.
LOTTO - Once again the jackpot has not been won with the £10,000 proving as elusive as ever to claim . Last weeks numbers were 6,11,25 30. CHRISTMAS CONCERT - The Brass Band will give their much looked forwar to recital at Duiske Abbey on Friday14th December commencing at 8pm.The annual concert at the Abbey has been a much appreciated social event and this year as their guest they will have our local tenor Christy Bolger, the In Caelo Choir from Inistioge and pupils from Duiske College.
GOLF - The Golfing Society, following two years in which they had to abandon the event due to the weather conditions had a very succesful and enjoyable Christmas Splas competition at Borris last 8th December Captain Brian Dunne treated the players to a Mulled wine receptio and when the frost had lifted play got under way with a shotgun start . The teams were very evenly matched and there was little between the sides at the end of a great day.The winners were the team comprising of Jamie ,Paddy Hayles and Billy Hoare . Runners up were Liam Dunne, Donal Kelly and John Enright In third position were Jim Kielthy, Shane Hough and John Canning.
