NEW MONTESSORI SCHOOL FOR LISDOWNEY - A new Montessori School will open in LisdowneyResource Centre next Tuesday, 7th May 2013, from 9 am to 12 noon. It will be run by Helen Coogan, who is a fully qualified Montessori Teacher and holds a Level 6 qualification in Childcare. She has been working in childcare since 2008 and has worked in Montessori schools in Kilkenny for the last two years.
Lisdowney Montessori Play and Learn School is looking for children over the age of two and a half years and will be able to provide the Free Pre School Year for children between three and a half to four and half years. PRAGUE HOUSE FUNDRAISER - Prague House Freshford are again running their Benefit Night of Greyhound Racing at James Park Kilkenny on Friday, 17th May 2013. This night always proves to be a very enjoyable night with many valuable prizes for patrons with tickets purchased beforehand. Ticket-sellers are selling the tickets in the parishes of Freshford, Lisdowney, Tullaroan and beyond. Tickets can also be purchased from Prague House. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
SYMPATHIES – - Sympathies are expressed to the family of Kitty Doheny, Kilrush, Freshford, who passed away at the weekend. Kitty was a much-loved and respected teacher at Scoil Naomh Fiachra, Clontubrid, for over 20 years, where she worked alongside her husband, Pat. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Pat, and daughter, Mary. Mrs. Doheny was buried on Monday afternoon in St Lachtain’s Cemetery after Requiem Mass in St Lachtain’s Church, Freshford. She is survived by her children Anne, Joe, Michael, Padraig, Gearoid and Frank, sister Margaret Comerford, sister-in-law Angela Doheny, sons in law, daughters in law, grandchildren, relatives and friends.
GATHABAWN RURAL DEVELOPMENT - The AGM of Gathabawn Rural Development will take place tonight (Wednesday, 1st May 2013) at 8 pm in Creenkill National School. Insurance Expert Sean Manicle of Manicle Property Claims will be the guest speaker. All welcome.
JUNIOR HURLING LEAGUE - Lisdowney had a good win in the first round of the Junior Hurling League beating Piltown on a scoreline of 6-13 to 2-12 in Piltown on Sunday afternoon. The team lined out as 1:Niall Grogan, 2:Niall O’Hara, 3:Martin Phelan, 4:Niall Mackey, 5:Pauric Kenny, 6:Sean Phelan, 7:Peter Bergin, 8:Joe Bergin, 9 Pat O’Carroll, 10:Eoin Delahunty, 11:Aaron Fogarty, 12:Kevin Sweeney, 13:Ciaran Mackey, 14:Rory Hickey, 15:Michael Kenny. Paddy Bowden, Shane Clyne, Niall Kenny, Anthony O’Hara and Eoin Walsh came on as subs during the game.
MINOR HURLING - In the Minor Roinn B League, Lisdowney had a good win over Danesfort in Danesfort on Monday, 22nd April 2013, on a scoreline of 4-16 to 0-11. The team lined out as follows 1:Liam Dunphy, 2:Paul Coss, 3:Jack Dunphy, 4:Kevin O’Sullivan, 5:Brian O’Carroll, 6:Eoin Walsh, 7:Ciaran O’Carroll, 8:Michael Kenny, 9:Dylan Jordan, 10:Brian Kavanagh, 11:Alan Murphy, 12:Peter O’Sullivan, 13:James Murphy, 14:Conor O’Carroll, 15:William Kenny. Morgan Grace Cashin and Darragh Mackey came on as subs for Dylan Jordan and Brian Kavanagh. The next round of the league is on next Tuesday, 7th May 2013, against Galmoy/Windgap in Lisdowney.
SCHOOLS LEAGUE - The Lisdowney Schools Team was defeated by Urlingford but beat Paulstown in the Schools League last week.
RAIN JACKET FOUND - A Lisdowney rain jacket, size 7-8, was left behind after the recent Community Games Athletics. Please contact 086-8093647.
FEILE - Lisdowney took part in the Paddy Grace U14 Feile tournament last weekend. They defeated St Lachtains in the opening game but went on to be beaten by Graigue-Ballycallan and Erin’s Own in the tournament in Palmerstown. Graigue-Ballycallan came out on tops and will play Dicksboro in the semi-final this weekend.
UNDERAGE HURLING - Hurling for boys and girls from Under 6 up to Under 12 in Lisdowney GAA Club will continue every Saturday morning from 10 am to 11 am. All are welcome. Children must wear helmets and shin guards.
LISDOWNEY GAA & CAMOGIE CLUB LOTTO - The numbers drawn in the Lisdowney GAA and Camogie Club Lotto on Monday, 22nd April 2013, were 6, 10, 16 and 22. There was no winner. Match three winners were Mary Brennan (x2), Vera Hogan, Liam Dermody, Phil Dermody and Tony O’Hara. Next week’s jackpot is €4,800. The draw will be held on Tuesday, 7th May 2013, in Mackeys’ Bar, Gathabawn.
LADIES FOOTBALL AND FITNESS CLUB - Conahy Ladies Football and Fitness Club is calling all ladies interested in getting fit and having fun.
