On Saturday 24th September Kilkenny CBS student David McGeary won gold in the All-Ireland Schools Combined Events at Morton Stadium in Santry.
Throughout the gruelling day long competition David called on all his reserves of speed, strength and stamina to secure first place on a cumulative points total of 3,348, a full 95 points clear of his nearest rival. The Competition comprises 6 Track and Field disciplines, namely High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Putt, 200m, 800m and 110m Hurdles. Schools from the 32 Counties are open to participate in the event. Having won the Leinster title earlier in September in relatively easy fashion, David faced much stiffer opposition in Saturday’s National Finals. David McGeary showed tremendous versatility and consistency across all 6 events to finish on top step of the podium. The whole school congratulates David on a remarkable achievement and wish him further Athletics success in the future.
