The Savour Kilkenny Food Festival, Kilkenomics, the International Gospel Choir and Kilkenny Rythm & Roots are each to get €5,000 for next year, the year of The Gathering, Fine Gael TD, John Paul Phelan, has confirmed.

“Festivals are the lifeblood of Kilkenny. Events such as Savour, Kilkenomics, Rythm & Roots and the International Gospel Choir have really helped put us on the map as a thriving, buzzing and exciting place to visit and live.

“The impact these festivals have on Kilkenny are not just felt in the city but throughout the county and all across the south east. They are a critical revenue spinner which helps fill hotels and restaurants, clubs, pubs and breathe life and revenue into the region.

“I am delighted that these festivals and the choir are being supported by Fáilte Ireland under the regional festivals funding programme for 2013. An announcement of the funding for national events will be made in the near future.

“2013 will be a critical year for Kilkenny and for the entire country, a year when we all hope to welcome family members home for The Gathering. This is very good news for Kilkenny and a vote of confidence in the selfless volunteers and groups of people who come together throughout the year to make Kilkenny such a vibrant, attractive and lively city and county.”
