An innovative new anti-bullying campaign was launched in Colaiste Pobail Osrai last Monday, January 21.
Seachtain na gCairde was a full week entirely centered around the ways in which people interact with each other, initiated by the Cool School Programme as a means of educating students about bullying as a whole. All week, from 9am, each teacher conducted a 40-minute lesson on the different aspects of bullying, beginning with a revision of its general definition and what the rules of the school are in relation to it.
Working in groups, the students were given various case studies and questions to work on, with five interactive lessons set out as follows: Bullying and non-bullying; types of bullying (such as cyber, physical and psychological); how bystanders can help; asking for help; and making a class anti-bullying agreement. With new procedures being enforced within schools to tackle the problem, these initiatives provide an excellent platform from which students and teachers alike can work from, ensuring they are adequately informed.
