EuroMillions winner - Martin Marinel and his wife Violet, Mount Finn Drive, received some wonderful news last Wednesday morning when they checked their EuroMillions ticket in Urlingford Post Office where Martin purchased it, to find that they had won the Lotto Plus draw and were to take home €500,000. SYMPATHY - The tragic circumstances surrounding the death of Mario Francis last week numbed the community. Mario was a hard working and wonderful family man. He was well known and well liked in the area and our deepest sympathies go to his wife Myanne and his sons Jomar and Jelrum who attend Urlingford National School. Also our sympathies go to his mother, nine sisters and brothers and his two sons in the Philippines Junior and Jolumar. Mario’s remains will return to the Philippines this week.

URLINGFORD/GRAINE DEFIBRILLATOR GROUP - Meeting once a month in the Urlingford Community Childcare Centre. We would like to get as many volunteers as possible so please come along and bring a friend – together we could save a life.

ST KIERAN’S ATHLETIC CLUB - Congratulations to Lauren Hayde, Mateusz Pietrzykowski and Kealan Dermody for excellent performances at the Open Sports Day in Kilmacow on Easter Monday. Lauren finished 2nd in the U-17 girls 700m and 3rd in the shot putt and Matt received 2nd in the U-16 boys 100m. Well done to all three. Training continues each Wednesday evening from 6.30 to 7.30 and on Sunday from 12.15 to 13.45 behind Colaiste Mhuire.

MILL FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE - The Mill FRC / VEC are holding one-day workshops: Healthcare May 7; Horticulture/Woodwork May 14; Customer Service May 21; Information & Computer Technology May 28; Childcare June 4; Adult Guidance June 11. Also, Irish Cancer Society are holding a talk in the Mill Family Resource Centre on May 17 at 6.30pm. The aim of the talk is to bring to peoples attention their upcoming fundraiser Relay for Life Kilkenny. The event is run over two days, July 20 and 21 in the Watershed, Kilkenny and is a 24 hour relay walk.

URLINGFORD NS - Scoil an Chroi Ro-Naofa Urlingford NS enrolment for September 2013 has now begun. If you have not yet been in contact with the school regarding enrolling a child for September please do so at 056 8831512 from 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday or by calling to the school office. Closing date for enrolments is April 12.

URLINGFORD LIBRARY - Closed Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Open Tuesday 10-1 and 2-8; Thursday 10-1 and 2-5; Saturday 10 to 1.30. Urlingford Library has a fantastic display of Tea Cosies all made by the Nattering Knitters from Castlecomer. Most are for sale at €10 each.

GRAINE DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION - Public Meeting in Graine Community Hall on Friday, April 12 at 8.30pm to update community on present financial position regarding the new hall.

THE GATHERING - As part of The Gathering the parish of Graine and Urlingford are organising a weekend of activities in August, full details to be finalised. One of these is to have an exhibition of photos in both Graine and Urlingford, which reflects the history of the parish, and it’s people. We are looking for photos, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, photos of anyone who served in any of the wars or in the army. Any photos of Gardai, Priests or Doctors etc. If you do not want these photos to leave your home we can arrange for someone to call and copy them in your home. EMERALDS CAMOGIE CLUB - Are holding a ‘Cookery Demonstration’ by well known freelance chef Edward Hayden from TV3’s ‘Ireland AM ‘ in the Community Hall, Urlingford on Thursday, May 16. JOHN MURRAY RTE WALK - Next walk is this Sunday, April 14 on Cullohill Mountain. Starting from Cullohill Community Centre at 12 noon. A host of entertainers will be present while refreshments will be served afterwards. John Murray walks have attracted upwards of 1,200 walkers. Great day assured so please come along.

COMMUNITY ALERT - At this stage we have almost completed our visits to all households in our parish explaining how community text alert programmer works. To date the response is fantastic and most householders have joined up. At this stage we are in discussion with Kilkenny Gardai Head Office to iron out any teething problems we may have in operating this new system. We have called to all householders at this stage and most have joined this valuable new service. If for some chance we missed on meeting you can join our system by contacting secretary Dan Norton , John Cahill or John Hayde for forms to sign up. Shortly we will order new Text Alert signs which will be put up around the parish. In the meantime watch for rogue dealers or criminals driving about in our area.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION - First and third Friday of each month at 2.30-5.30pm.

BAPTISM - The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the second and fourth weekends of the month, Saturday and Sunday only.

MARRIAGE - At least three months notice must be given.

CARE OF THE SICK AND ELDERLY - Please contact Fr Maher if you have a relative or neighbour sick at home or in hospital and would like to be visited or added to the First Friday calls.
