Shreddies Parks Tennis is a nationwide low-cost tennis coaching programme aimed at girls and boys from 6 to 17 years of age. It was launched in Dublin in 1977, opened its gates in Kilkenny in 1992, and caters for beginners and improvers.
Kilkenny Parks Tennis is organised by a voluntary committee and the coaches are trained and experienced. Parks Tennis is sponsored by the Irish Sports Council and “Shreddies” Nestle Ireland, and the provision of tennis courts at local schools make it possible to offer a low-cost summer camp to the children.
Kilkenny Parks Tennis has increased youth participation in tennis (460 players were registered in 2011) and has provided much needed summer employment for students.
Tennis coaches will coach children throughout the summer months in locations across the country amongst which are the following in Co. Kilkenny: Presentation Secondary School, Loughboy/Kilkenny City, Church Hill National School, Cuffesgrange, Scoil Aireagail, Ballyhale, Duiske College, Graiguenamangh, Kilmoganny, Thomastown Public Courts/
The coaching programme will start from 2nd of July -27th of July and consists of 10x1-hour lessons (10x 2hr lessons for older groups at selected venues) over the period of 2 consecutive weeks. The cost is €15/€20 per child.
Registration will take place on June 9 at Presentation Secondary School, Loughboy for the venues Kilkenny City and Cuffesgrange. For other venues please call 085-2828846.
