NOWLAN PARK HOSTS GO GAMES - Erin’s Own brought 23 Under 10 and 9 hurlers to Nowlan Park on Saturday to play their final Go Games match of 2012. We were paired with Mooncoin who had similar numbers so everybody played a full game. In the Under 9 game our lads were under severe pressure for the first half but thanks to excellent goalkeeping from John Kenny and defending by Ewan, Dylan, Adam and James Kenny we kept the half time deficit to two goals. A reshuffle at half time saw Ciaran Meagher continue the great goalkeeping to keep us in the game. Ashley and Luca now kept more of the play in the Mooncoin half and a Tommy Coogan goal with the help of debutant Shane Holden started the comeback. Liam Doyle’s long range shot went over for a point. The game was won with the score of the day when John Kenny battled hard to win possession, handpassed to Ewan Connery who turned and scored with a great strike from 20 yards. Great teamwork from two young players. Panel: Ciaran Meagher, Adam Stone, Ashley Kerr, Luca Downey, Dylan Stynes Leigh, John Kenny, Ewan Connery, Kiel Smyth, James Kenny, Tommy Coogan, Shane Holden and Liam Doyle. In the Under 10 game Comer attacked right from the start with an excellent team display throughout. The half time score reflected this dominance with a lead of 7 to nil. Some adjustments were made to positions in the second half and as a result a more even second half followed. Comer eventually ran out comfortable winners by 12 to 5. Strong performances throughout with the scorers spread over 6 different players with Kevin Holland and Lee Holden bagging 4 scores each. In defence the boys played really well with Cathal O’Reilly, Shane Coogan and Brian Holland holding strong. Kevin Holland in defence and attack. Midfield Lee Holden was superb supported by an ever improving Darragh O’Rourke Up Front again well done to Michael Rowe, James Hogan, David Allen and Jamie Maher Panel: Kevin Holland, Jamie Maher, Lee Holden, Darragh O’Rourke, James Hogan, Brian Holland, Owen Comerford, Michael Rowe, David Allen, Cathal O’Reilly and Shane Coogan. All 23 boys can be really proud of their day out in Nowlan Park and continue to build on this in the coming weeks in training. Well done to all involved.
UNDER 12 CALLAN TOURNAMENT - On Tuesday last the Erin’s Own Under 12 boys travelled to Danesfort to take on the locals in the sixth round of the Callan Tournament. Played in lovely conditions the Comer boys went about their job with great gusto and right from the off were rewarded when James Brennan finished a sweeping move to the net. With the Comer boys dominant throughout the field it was only a matter of time before more scores followed and they duly did with goals from Kevin Brennan, James Brennan and Killian Hogan who finished a lovely goal after some great back up play. In the second half Comer took control and with all the boys hurling very well they ran out comfortable winners and top the group and are now into the final of this tournament. Regarded as one of the big days in Kilkenny Juvenile hurling the Callan Tournament commences with a parade through the town. All in the Club wish the boys under 12’s the best of luck on bank holiday Sunday when they contest the final. Next up for this group of busy hurlers was the county go games last Thursday against Ballyhale Shamrocks in Ballycomey. In probably their best performance this year the young Comer boys took control of the match from the first whistle and playing direct hurling ran up a fine spread of goals and points to easily account for their opponents. The entire panel played exceptionally well throughout and now look forward to five more matches in this County Board run event. The panel against both teams Nicky Connolly, Liam Holland, Dan Coogan, Christopher Kruff, Jack Buggy, Declan Buggy, Cathal Holland, Conor McMahon, Kevin Holland, Conor Clarke, Lee Holden, James Buggy, David Ferris, James Brennan, Billy O’ Neill, Kealan Ring, Killian Hogan.
