An Extra Ordinary General meeting of St. Lachtains GAA Club will take place on Friday evening next in the Club rooms in Pairc Lachtain at 8.30pm.. All general members, players and Committee members are requested to attend this meeting. St. Lachtains Junior B hurlers were beaten by Clare on Wednesday evening of last week in the preliminary round of the North Junior B Championship losing on a scoreline of 0-13 to 0-8. The U14 Hurlers were beaten by Slieverue last week in a play off or a league semi final position . Slieverue were since beaten by Mooncoin in the league semi final and now await the winners of Tullaroan and Lisdowney involved in the other semi final. Meanwhile the U16 Hurlers play Ballyhale/Shamrocks in St. Johns Park on Thursday next 2nd August in the preliminary round of the Championship (see fixtures for confirmation).
In the Roinn A semi final of the Minor Hurling League St.Lachtains take on James Stephens at Tom Ryall Park on Bank holiday Monday 6th August at 7.30pm (see fixtures for confirmation). On Tuesday next the Junior A hurlers play Young Ireland of Gowran in the quarter final of the North Junior A Championship. FRESHFORD COMMUNITY MARKET - Freshford Community Market which started up recently has now moved to Saturday morning and seems to be a better success. The market will be held each Saturday in the Community Hall from 11am to 1 pm. So go along or a tea or coffee and homemade scone and all locally produced foods and goods are on sale. FRESHFORD CONNECTION - The Tom Sempell Cup competition was held recently in Thurles with twelve teams taking part. The final saw Kilburn Gaels of London take on Dunboyne and the Kilburn side came out winners and retained the Cup for the second year in succession. Freshford had a special interest in this competition with local lad John Joe Burke of Woodview, Freshford playing in goal for the Kilburn Gaels winning side.
PRAGUE HOUSE - The recent Coffee morning held in Threecastles Hall in aid of Prague House was a great success. A big thanks to all those who baked for the event or helped out n any way on the morning. A total of €490 was presented to the Prague House Refurbishment Project.
SOCCER - Training has resumed for the Junior soccer team in preparation for the forthcoming season and will continue every Wednesday evening at the Sportsfield at Woodview at 7.30pm. They will play in the 2nd Division this season. Meanwhile Work is continuing in the pitch at present for the forthcoming season. You can follow the Club on facebook for up to date forthcoming events.

Pitch Development Draw- There was a draw for a trip to a Premier League Game Man Utd –v- Fulham or Liverpool v Man City. This fantastic prize of a weekend for 2 includes 2 nights in City Centre Hotel plus match tickets, all travel and transfers included – The fund raising draw was due to take place in Kavanaghs Bar on Saturday night last . Ciorcal Gaelach - The Club had a lovely evening to celebrate the first year of the Ciorcal. Joan O’Donovan won the trath na gceist and a great Comhru finished the evening. The Ciorcal will recommence in med September.

SYMPATHY - Sympathy is extended to Paddy Murphy Bishopshill, Kilkenny and all his family and the Hall Family Tullaroan on the death of Chris Murphy of Tullaroan and formerly of Loughboy Kilkenny who died in an accident which fishing down in Kerry last week. Removal took place on Monday morning last from Kennedy’s funeral home Freshford to Tullaroan Church for Requiem Mass following by burial in Tullaroan Cemetery. Sister Denis Kelly who died in Liverpool recently was a member of the Kelly family formerly of Inch more, Freshford and sympathy is extended to her extended family.

CAMOGIE NEWS - St.Lachtains Minors girls were defeated by Piltown on Wednesday last in Pairc Lachtain on a score line of 4-04 to 3-14. After putting in a solid first half performance and leading at the break, the local girls took their foot of the pedal and let Piltown back into the game, outplaying the Freshford/Conahy girls winning easily in the end. ACTIVE RETIREMENT GROUP - Freshford Active Retirement Group meet in the local Community Hall each Tuesday at3pm with new members always welcome. The members travelled to Bishops Palace, Waterford recently and were taken on a very interesting tour of the building .
