The funeral has taken place of Kilkenny farmer Liam Ryan, who died suddenly last Wednesday evening.
Mr Ryan (51), from Muckalee, suffered a suspected heart attack while attempting to rescue a calf trapped between two bales of hay in an outhouse on his farm. He lay undiscovered until early the next morning, when a neighbour found his body in the outhouse.
Gardai carried out a technical examination at the scene and his remains were brought to Waterford Regional Hospital for post mortem examination.
There was a large gathering at his residence on Saturday, where rosary and vigil prayers were recited.
Funeral prayers took place on Sunday morning, followed by removal to Saint Brendan’s Church in Muckalee for where mass took place at 11am, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Born and raised on the family farm in Muckalee, Mr Ryan was well-known locally. He will be lovingly remembered by his family, relatives and friends, including his brother John and sister Majella.
