Southend - U-13 soccer: The team were away to Lions of Durrow in the league last Saturday. The first half remained scoreless with defences on top although both teams struck the crossbar. The first goal arrived midway through the second half when Lions broke through to take the lead. Five minutes later the Southend lads were level when Adam Masood delivered a great ball from a free and Darragh Corcoran flicked it on to Eoin Cody who smashed home. Five minutes later came the decisive moment in the game when Adam Masood, who tormented the Lions defence all day, delivered another free kick in to the box and once again Eoin Cody pounced to ram the ball to the roof of the net for the winning goal. It was impossible to single out any star player as everyone gave everything in a fine team performance. The club would like to extend get well wishes to the Lions keeper who suffered an injury towards the end of the game.
The Under 11’s had only 8 players for their game against a City team. Nevertheless they played the match and fought valiantly and even scored a goal against superior numbers!
