CAMOGIE FÉILE- Dicksboro U14 girls had a great win in the Féile na nGael final, played in Mullinavat on Saturday against Glenmore. Glenmore got the better start, putting a point on the board in the first minute, and following up with a goal a minute later. Despite the setback, the Dicksboro girls kept their composure and settled into the game. The teams were well matched, and every ball was strongly contested. After 15 minutes, Caoimhe Dunne-Dowling collected a ball 30 meters out from the Glenmore goal and fired in a strong shot, all the way to the back of the net. This left just a single point between the teams. Glenmore then replied with a point, and the teams went in at half time, 1-2 to 1-0, Glenmore in the lead. Dicksboro had the benefit of the breeze in the second half which was blowing diagonally across the pitch, and began to take control of the game. A goal from Bronagh Doheny put the ‘Boro girls one point up, and ten minutes from the end a shot from Niamh Mulrooney also found it’s way to the net, giving the girls a four point lead. Glenmore worked hard, fighting for every ball and never giving up. The final score was a pointed 45 from Caoimhe Dunne-Dowling, leaving the final score at Dicksboro 3-1, Glenmore 1-2. Congratulations to the girls and mentors, as they prepare to represent Kilkenny in the National Féile na nGael finals, which will be held in Limerick from 5th – 7th July. Check out our Facebook page, ‘Dicksboro Camogie Club’.
HURLING FÉILE- The final stages of the Paddy Grace Hurling Féile was held last weekend when the semi-finals and final were played on Saturday. The ‘Boro’s semi-final was held in Clara against a very good Graigue/Ballycallan side. It was obvious from the off that this Kilmanagh team were well coached and a half-time lead by the ‘Boro of 1-3 to 0-2 was assisted by a strong breeze and so a lot more work was still required in the second half. The second half started with a pointed free from Graigue which was immediately followed by a ‘Boro goal to put us two goals to the good. From that point, however, Graigue came more and more into the game and with five minutes remaining, they were only one point behind us as we had failed to score since our goal in the second minute. Thankfully our second and last score of the half was another goal, which probably came against the run of play, but it was enough to put us over the line. FT Dicksboro 3-3 Graigue/Ballycallan 0-9. And so we were in the final to be held in Jenkinstown that afternoon against local rivals, O’Loughlin Gaels, a team that we have had many great clashes with in the past. Yet again the strong wind favoured the ‘Boro in the first half and so we would have hoped to be going in at half-time with more than a one point lead, as was the case, HT Dicksboro 0-7 O’Loughlins 1-3. O’Loughlins had a whirlwind start to the second half, scoring 1-1 in the first minute, which was followed three minutes later with another point. A brace of points on the seventh and ninth minute kept us within shooting distance as we trailed by three points but the Gaels knocked over another couple of points to put more distance between the teams. A goal on the fourteenth minute ended our scoring and O’Loughlins ran out winners on a scoreline of Dicksboro 1-9 O’Loughlin Gaels 2-9. We will now put this defeat behind us and concentrate on our league and championship campaigns. Well done to all the boys and good luck to O’Loughlins in the National Féile.
